when using dogs you are not the one doing the hunting. it is the dog that hunts and you just follow the dog. it is illegal in texas. studies show that deer die from stress when chased by dogs.pushing deer is not hunting either. it is just pushing deer into your site range.

Wingnut---to you, liar, liar pants on fire. The scenario you describe sounds like the way hollywood constantly portrays Southerners as trailer trash. "2-3-4-5 miles" give me a break. I belong to one of the biggest hunting clubs in GA-over 22,000 acres. We can't run a deer as far as that. You sound like a lying weasel Democrat that paints a false picture to scare people.
There are some bad dog hunters like there are some scuzzy still hunters. I know because the Game Warden with our help shut down a dog club a few miles away from mine just this year. But Wingnut had to smoke a big fat one to write that story. Well maybe not it was after all Alabama he was talking about( easy AL bro's just pickin').
To everyone else I invite you to come as my guest to the Briar Creek Sportsman Club and see dog hunting at it's best. It's legal, ethical and fun. We enjoy a big breakfast together. We hunt all day. We divide the meat among everyone that wants meat. Then we grill steaks or chicken or have stew down by the creek. Most importantly we respect the landowners around our club.

Dep214, let me see if I understand your logic, you don't like dog's or deer drives, but being from texas you probably sit in a closed stand and wait for the feeder to go off so the deer will come to you, nothing more exciting than hunting over hound's, and the times that I wasn't useing hounds in arkansas I used other peoples dogs to my advantage. isn't our sport in enough trouble without hunters judging other legal hunters, hunting evolves in all areas based on what works and is socially acceptable, if you don't like something work to change the law , but stop whining, it gives ammo to the anti's

no whining here. it is the law in texas. there are no hunting skills displayed by using dogs. the only skill i can see is the dog handler. as for using a feeder i do not use one.i do plant things throughout the lease so the deer will have something to eat. i do not hunt in these areas. i hunt an old roadway that has nothing but me and the deer. i do sit in a stand just as you probably use camo clothes. no point there.

I grew up hunting with dogs here in north Florida and loved every minute of it. I gave it up because our group lost its lease after 15 years of hunting it.I hunt from the trees now and love it just as much. I have also seen scenerios like wingnut described but they are the exception not the rule. Most dog hunters respect the law, and here in north Florida groups with big enough leases to run dogs were the first to start managing their deer herd. Anyone who thinks its easier needs to try it and anyone who thinks they can get deer here without using dogs needs to come down and try hunting here, place is so thick rabbits use bulldozers. A quick stat, I hunt a WMA here, still hunt area only, 36,000 acres with 300 permits issued this year, exactly 13 deer killed from the start of bow season in Oct. until this evening. Thats tough hunting and its rated as one of the top 5 WMA in the state. I'm lucky I have property in Georgia to hunt so i always have s full freezer. Don't knock it until you have tried it.

First off wingnut, not all dog hunters are like your opinion, huntings got enough problems as usa said ,"without hunters judging other hunters" Ive hunted dogs all my life and still do from time to time in louisiana dog season is placed at the end of the regular hunting season, only in certain areas, and only for a couple to three weeks, and as I said ive hunted with dogs all my life and have never taken place in anything like what you described, Im sure their are hunters like that, but not all so do say they are all like that, heck ive saw bow hunters hit a deer track it for a couple of hundred yards and give up, but not all bow hunters are like that I know because I am one and I dont do that, As far as not doing the "hunting' as you so nicely put it, I scout harder for dog season than I do for still hunting, I like to find the deer and try to make sure they are easily ran without messing up someone on private property, its also about working with your dogs, the dogs that you raised from the time they were born and spent countless hours training, just as a man with a duck dog, rabbit dog or bird dog, I know because Ive worked with just about all of the above. Oh and one more thing for everyone who likes to shoot dogs, I know that some people put their dogs on other people property, and mine have gotten on private property by accident, but its not the dogs fault, hes doing what he was bred to do nothing less he dont know any better, if you catch a dog on your property dont shoot him catch him and call the game wardens let them take care of it thats what your taxes pay for. Most dogs have a collar with the owners name very easy to get in contact with, what did the dog do to get shot with, and if you would just try hunting with dogs one time and you hear them coming straight for you, you would see that its almost as exciting as coming full draw on a nice buck at day light within 15 yards. Dont judge what you dont understand and dont judge a legal ethical hunter if you do you are a hypocrit and worse than any anti hunting gun hating nut. this is AMERICA for crying out loud as long as its legal let it be if you see something illegal taking place call the proper athorities.

Why do you hunters continue to bash one another? Do you not relieze you are just feeding the non hunting public with ammunition? Do you not think the non-hunting public reads this board? I just read a post in off season about someone getting an e-mail from an anti. When a topic like this turns to bashing it should be deleted immediately by the original poster or a mod. Come on fellow hunters, wise up, for our own good.
