I am reviewingsome ballistics charts and began to think about the following: If the chart statesa certain trajectory path of "x" @ 100 yds, then it will be "y" @ 200 yds, willmounting of the scopeusing see-thru rings vs. mounting directlyon the barrel change the zero point and its relationship to where the bullet will be at 200 yards?

Yep, most of those charts state that they are assuming the bore of the rifle is 1 1/2 inches below the center of the bore....
There is no need for a hunter to even consider see through mounts, given the reliability of scopes on the market today...

Yes scope height makes a difference. Its a sad trade off really, the higher you mount your scope the flatter it seems to shoot beyond a certain distance, but it makes shooting accurately more difficult.
I agree, I would skip the see through mounts.

I had some see through mounts many years ago and honestly never used the see thru part. It made the scope too high for even me.

Definately agree with passing on the see thru mounts, just lifts the scope to high. If you get one of the many quality lower power variable scopes on the market, can adjust to very low magnification on the low end, and they work great. I have a Leupold 2.5 x 8 on my rifle barreled shotgun, and have never had a problem not being able to find a closeup whitetail in the scope.

If shooting a caliber like .270 with a velocity of 2900-3000 fps, sight in 2 inches high and 100 and check every 50 yards so you know where it's hitting...
