There is no need for a hunter to even consider see through mounts, given the reliability of scopes on the market today...
I guess this is in the deer hunting forum so this statement may be true for high powered hunting rifles, but I just used the see through mounts on my ruger 10/22 this weekend. At extremely short ranges (10' or less) even at 2.5 magnification it can be hard to find your target in a scope.
