BTRACK,you are obviously ill informed.yes, the .270's and .30 cals have more stopping power, but the .243 is a very fine round.accurate and dependable.

The Remington model 7 youth model is available in 7mm-08 I believe.Or you can just cut the stock an inch and put on a recoil pad, same difference.Sure you can kill deer with a 243.But would I go out and buy one when I could by a 308 or 7mm-08,270 etc.No way.I killed a lot of deer with a 30/30 when I was young. When I got old enough to by a rifle for myself I bought a 3006.My old 30/30 was cabable of killing deer but the 06 is better, more knockdown, more range.I don't like it for a youth rifle.I can't tell you how many fruitless blood trails I've been on from kids shooting a 243.A youngster gets excited,is inexperienced, shot placement is'nt allways the best.A 243 does'nt give much margin for error. The 7mm-08 is a much better choice.Or if your shots are close the 30/30.I want 2 holes in a deer and the ability to drive that bullet ******* to elbow if necessary. You just don't get that with a 243.

Well my 12 y/o son has taken 4 deer this year with what??????? a 243 winchester!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not one ran over 40 yards and he popped one this afternoon and she hit the ground and never moved. she just fell to the ground!
Last day of modern gun season in the last 15 minutes.
about the same time he shot i took a doe also. with a 270 , so i got to clean both .
big difference in tissue damage? little! the little 70 b/t in the shoulder at the spine just rips!
yeah my 130 gr hot core 270 made a BIG hole in her ribcage but mine ran ! about 50 yards.

No i wouldnt take it on a "10,000" hunt, but then again i don't think i would spend 10 grand on any hunt.
Cajun i spent sat. morning on a trail for a deer hit by a adult with a 30-06. excited man with gun made a bad shot on a doe!
It's like they say it's not the gun it's the operator!

I used a Parker-Hale .243 with a redfield 3x9 for my first few deer when I was younger that was the best Whitetail rifle I ever used. It shot very flat up to 250 yards maybe even further but that is all the distance I ever shot. I highly recommend a .243 especialy for a younger hunter or someone that flinches from recoil. Had plenty of killing power.

It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way
