Take the .30-.30 and leave the birdgun in the gun rack. If it was a rifled barrel then it would be competative, but since it's not use the rifle and go with the accuracy. I've shot deer with the .30-.30 and haven't had to track one more than 50 yards. I've knocked several flat. Great little gun.

30-30 will be the more accurate. It will down a deer. I have shot many deer with the exact set up. I have shot them form 30yrds to 150 with no problem. I use mine primarily as a brush gun. I use a 30-06 for my reach out and touch someone gun.

For deer or what? I use a 12g Ithica mod 37 fetherlight pump when I go hog hunting in our thick brush but I dont hunt deer with it. My deer brush gun is a 30-30 with a sidemount scope and open sites. I like it in the brush becouse its short and I can use it in tight spaces. You never know when you may come up on a hog here.

You can't go wrong with either choice but if my shots were at 75 yards I'd use the 30-30. It's got plenty of knockdown power.
I'd pick the shootgun if I were brush popping.

I personally would prefer a rifled barrel over a smooth bore. It's just common sense unless you have some magical smooth bore that shoot consistently straight out to 100 yards. Do the deer a favor, shoot the most accurate weapon matched to the expected distance. One thing you can say about a shotgun slug, they sure put em down quick.

Both will work just fine, but if your shotgun is accurate out to 75 (and my smoothbore is), I'd use it on account of its knockdown power. Just do the deer a favor and don't use buckshot if possible.

To clerify things, I will be hunting deer and hogs.
I've killed a few deer with this 30-30 setup out to around 100 yards so I have alot of confiedence that it will do the job. But I really love my 12ga. though it is a smoothbore, it will shoot a group the size of my fist at 75 yards with full sized rifled slugs. I've killed one deer with this setup and was very impressed with the knockdown power. I've also killed one with 2 3/4" 00 buckshot at around 50 yards and was equaly impressed when she dropped in her tracks with one shot to the neck. I still perfer slugs but I'm interested in 000 buckshot if any of you have some experience with it. What do you think about the winchester 170g silvertip bullets for the 30-30, I need a little more input to make an educated choice on this.
