This article says, "John Yenason, who is among the top competitive .50 shooters, says that before showing up at a match you should be able to put five shots in a minute of angle at 1,000 yards—a 10-inch group." A competitive shooter putting 5 shots in 1 min. of angle under ideal conditions leaves you with shots in a 10 in. group.
Exactly, and that's world class shooters using 50 caliber weapons, under ideal conditions, at a range with wind indicators all the way out to the targetsand still a 10 inch group is considered good at 1000 yards. But there is no hope here MinnFinn. Too many folks eat up with the Ramboitis. They believe that a person can just be so good a shot that they can alter the laws of physics. They are just so good that variable wind speeds and directions across a 1000 yard gap somehow doesn't alter their bullets POIfrom one shot to the next. Cause they are just so good you see. They can close their eyes and just know that the the wind is NNE at 7 mph where they are, NNE at 4mph at the 200 yard mark, NE and 9 mph at the 500 yard mark and dead calm from 700 on to 1000 yards. And then somehow just knowing these things they can correctly dope the proper firing solution so perfectly that they can pick lint off a gnats @$$ at 1000 yards with their first shot each time. Cause they are just so good you see. Fueled by tall tale war stories, self agrandizing and ultimately BS laden books about military snipers, and now the internet, long range shooting fantasies (like most uban legends) are hard to kill.

There are no tough shots on the internet. No wounded game either. Never Never Never.

My personal range limit is 700 yds, At that range I'll hit within 2" of POA,
Like I said before. It sure is easy to be great on the internet. If you want, I'll tell you a story about how I killed a grizzly bear one time with a loose leaf notebook and a couple of roofing tacs.

I want to get close to animals I hunt. Standing of 800-1000 yards to shoot (not hunt) at an animal is disrespecting that animal and the One who made it.

They're not facts of what .50 BMG was designed to destroy planes and vehicles, go through buildings and such in war? Wow how'd I get the idea.

It's been around since early in the 20th century just for that purpose and all of a sudden some "brilliant" shooters figure they can take polks at big game out to 3/4 of a mile. Wow that's amazing. Arrogance I say.

Isn'tit amazing? In my travels I haven't really metaton offolks that could shootthat great at 400 yards. But boy you log onto any hunting website and people that can hit a bluejay flying at 900 yards are a dime a dozen. Strange huh? You know a more pessimistic person might start to think that perhaps the anonymity of the web combined with the knowledge that they will never have to prove any of these claims,might... just might mind you, be inducing people to spray a little self agrandizing bull####.

Maybe because you are connected to the WORLD WIDE WEB.There are a few out there better than the good old boys down at the local gun store.[8D]

I did say few and I also haven't seen 1 person say they could or would do what was in the video. That should make you feel better.

Ok,Icouldn't resist.I had to jump back in.

Hit a flying bluejay at 900 yards? That's cake. I can circumcise him at 900 yards!

LOL! Now you are getting it. Get back to me when you've taken out a grizzly with a roofing tack like I have. Now there's an internet accomplishment worth mentioning. 1000 yard shooting? Pffft, that's for children to lie about on the internet. We adults have move on to far more interesting myths.
