how do you decide which deer to shoot first?

Kill the first doe that you see if you want the meat. If it's cool, still early and you can see where the doe went down, just sit and wait. Ihave witnessed several bucks that would just stand beside a dead doe that was in heat. His instinct is to stay with her till he breeds her. He really doesn't know what's wrong with her, he just knows he has to stay with her till she stands long enough for him to mount her. I actually had a small 5 point that wouldn't run away from a hot doe that I had shot earlier, even when I got down and started walking toward her. He would bounce off about 30 yards and stand and watch. I actually began to wish for eyes in the back of my head as I gutted her, because he wouldn't leave........I was a bit worried he'd sneak up and try to breed me as crazy as he was acting.

I usually take my does outside of the rut, so no real worry about a trailing buck. That said this year I have a wt doe tag unfilled. Last weekend whileI could have filled it I didn't as you never know when a single mature doe enters your field of view close to the rut what might be lurking unseen. Though here filling a doe tag isn't really a tough task and with over 3 weeks left to hunt I feel no pressure in doing so.
As far as your first or what to do, I'd be letting your gut tell you when to shoulder and click off the safety. No right or wrong here.
Good Luck
