Default Whitetails and cattle

I've heard a time or two that deer don't mix with cows. Now one of my farmers is fencing in some prime deer turf in order to rotate his cattle through a hayfield where I've had a lot of success over the years. The fence isn't going to impede the deer, but I'm wondering if there's anything to the deer/cattle (oil/water?) story.

i have had the chance to hunt where there is cattle and deer., you just have to pattern them ., the cattle will move thru in the eve. and then the deer will come after., the a.m. the deer will come first and then the cows., it will work for you ., just make sure you step in a whole lot of cow poop when walking in., no really ., good luck.,

I have a place much like your talking about. Have 3 different fields that we rotate the cattle around - Matter of fact this morning I was staying out at the hunting trailor and a deer was feeding off the salt block in the cattle feeder probably 20 yards from the trailor - go figure - One thing is for sure - when the shooting starts the deer will seek refuge - having this property to hunt by myself helds my odds at harvesting a deer just like the sixteen pointer taken last year! I have noticed however that the deer tend to avoid the herd - mainly sticking to the outside edges of the field or if the herd is located in another field the deer will populate the other more frequenly! With that being said - the cattle usually are in one field giving my the freedom to hunt the other two during season! Hope the helps you decide! I also believe that the deer probably do not pay much attention to cows located in their environmnet - theyare no serious threat like a coyote or human! Deer know the physical threats - cows like grass and corn - coyotes like meat - human like meat - deer are meat!
