I've been using handloaded ballistic tips in my .270 for years now and never lost a deer. The problem is the guy that was loading them for me has sold all his reloading equipment. I've read about the SST bullets and according to Hornady's website these are as good or better than 9 out of 10 custom handloads.
Bullet performance appears to be similar to the ballistic tips with better weight retention. Any of you guys used the SST's and if so what did you think of them? Any input will be appreciated.

BT, Hornady IMO are one of the better factory ammo. I have also had good results from Federal Premium 130 Gr BT's out of my 270. I have been playing with the SST in my 7 mag, I have to tell you they are tack drivers. My groups are better with these bullets than any other factory or handload. However my field expericence is none with SST. I can vouch for other Hornady custom offerings and always pleased. I am like you and love BT's with excellent results. Looking into reveiws I found one non-favourable and 3 favourable with regards to the SST vs. Nosler BT.
I would say try them and maybe a box of Federal go with which ever one shoots the best. Being I have used the Federal BT's and other Hornady offerings, I would feel confident whichever shoots the best.

The Hornady SST is an awesome bullet no doubt! I started using them last year in my 30.06 with excellent results on deer. I handload the 150grn SST and would highly recommend the SST to anyone.
