Default hot apple cider to attract deer

I was told to put very hot apple cider in a thermos and bring that out to the blind. Take top off thermos so cider smell is released and that will work as cover scent and to bring in deer. Has anyone ever tried this?

I tried it once with no success , but there may not have been any deer nearby to smell it either . A guy I know swears by hot cider , especially mulled(spiced) cider .

I never really thought of that, its a good idea though

so is cider considered a scent, while apples are considered baiting? While i find a distinction in the two, the only real difference is that they dont get to actually drink the cider, but they can eat the apples (unless you drop him before he gets one in his mouth). just a thought for discussion.

I have never tried it myself but one of my hunting buddies' dads claimed much the same thing. But then again he smoked too.

No , it's only bait if they can get to it and consume it . If that happens you probably shouldn't be a hunter anyway ...

I have never tried that, but I do have a close hunting buddy that uses pure apple juice.

He puts it in a small spray bottle and begins spraying when he's within 150 yds from his stand. He lighly sprays small branches, twigs and some ground vegetation every 30-40 yds. He continues this until he has reached his treestand, where he again sprays the apple juice in that immediate area. I know he has shot some nice New England bucks and when he says he owes part of it to his apple juice....who am I to argue?
