Default BUCK RUSH

WHEN I SHOOT A DEER THAT POPS OUT, I STILL GET A GOOD DOSE OF BUCK RUSH WITH THE MASSIVE SHAKING. BUT WHEN ONE COMES OUT, THERE IS USUALLY A SECOND OR THIRD, THAT IS WHY I STAY READY AS MY GUN BARREL RAPIDLY SHAKES. ANYONE HAVE TIPS ON HOW TO CONVINCE YOURSELF TO STOP SHAKING AFTER THE FIRST KILL, OR ANTICIPATION OF THE KILL. OR SHOULD I JUST ENJOY THE RUSH, LUCKILY I HAVE YET TO MAKE A MISTAKE BECAUSE OF BUCK RUSH.

I use to get buck fever so bad I damn near fell out of the stand. That was when I was a rookie to the sport. I started going to the state parks where deer here are abundant. I got use to seeing deer all day long so it was not such a rush it seem to help pretty good. I do still get a rush no doubt but I can keep my balance now. That rush is what we love as hunters so enjoy it but you do need to keep it under control. Remember to breath slowly with deep breaths.I still get a rush when I am about to shoot a doe and I have shot countless numbers of them. I do think it gets better with experience though.

Try concentrating on your breathing. Well, first, make sure you are breathing! It’s easy to start holding your breath when the rush kicks in. Then, try to slow down your breathing to a more normal in and out and the speed of your heart should start slowing down as well. But as Tribal said, experience helps. Another thing that helps is not putting so much pressure on yourself. Tell yourself it’s OK if you don’t get this particular deer, there will be others. Realistic practice, like shooting outdoors, shooting at 3D targets, pretending that it’s a huge buck in front of you as you take your practice shots, will all help too. Good luck, we’ve all been there.

I also get the shakes more after the shot. I guess I amso focused and then
I let the emotion go when I get back to normal speed.
