Default San Diego Folks

Hey guys, how ya doing? I am going to be making the hike from New York to live in San Diego, probably with in the month. I just got a job working on San Clemente Island. Is there any hunting, at all, anywhere near San Diego? I am going to miss whitetail hunting so much. Also, what is the city like? Do you like it? Any cool stuff? Are the women as hot as they are on Baywatch?

The following is JUST MY OPINION. I was stationed in SD for 2 years in the Navy. I didn't enjoy being there very much. It was better than the 3 years I spent in Japan though. The Cali drivers are ruthless and don't slow down for anything. If you were to throw a dixie cup full of water on the Interstate it would cause a 10 car pileup. I hated the traffic jams everyday. Everything was very expensive. I don't know about hunting, because I was very busy and I didn't have the time or money to even try, but I did do a little fishing. The fishing and the weather were both excellent!! I know a person who was stationed on San Clemente and she said there wasn't much to do. She came in to SD whenever she could. It sounds like you have a cool job lined up though or that is what I gathered from your post in the offseason forum. I'm sorry if I'm being a downer, but this is JMO. Good Luck.

CK, I'm also a transplant from N.Y., Syracuse, don't know anything about the island, however, San Diego is what you make of it, I've been here since 1979 and have seen a lot of changes, its not for everybody but keep in mind our main economy is tourism , so somebody must like the wonderful weather/beaches full of beautiful women/cars with no rust/ no snow, but if you ski its only 2hrs away/ great pig hunting /good varmint hunting/casino's/a zillion acres to 4 wheel in/ plenty of deer hunting( notice I didn't say deer killing)/lots of tourist attractions-disneyland-sea world-knotts berry farm- universal studios etc, I will admit freeway driving takes some getting used to, but when I visit N.Y. I feel like I'm in slow motion, so its all a matter of getting used to something new,I hear the fishing is great off San Clemente Island

I'm up the coast north of San Diego. I don't think it's a bad place to live, but then you couldn't get me to New York to save my life so what do I know.

There's hunting east of SD, deer, bird, predator. I think there's some decent stuff out there if you find it. The fishing of the SoCal coast can be pretty good and San Clemente Island is right there; it's a target for a lot of the party boats. The weather out here is unsurpassed, although if you're used to snow and having the seasons change you may miss that.

All in all, keep an open mind and I think you'll have a good time.

San Diego is cool. YOu have great drinking in Tijuana (if that's your thing), excellent salt water fishing boats that go down the coast of Baja.

Hunting, if your're in the military, you can rifle hunt on Camp Pendleton which I hear has great deer availability.

Also, I've hunted and harvested turkey and predators in the Cleveland National forest, near Palomar mountain. There is a lot of deer hunting availability there too. Just get out of your truck and hike back where the other hunters don't dare to go. Plus, during dove season, you can drive and sleep in Yuma AZ, and hunt dove on the california side of the colorado river. Nearby Riverside county has some excellent hunting lands.

Good luck.
