Cool, thanks for the info Joe. I hope the guy is alright. I think I' d have a seizure just seeing a moose of that size! That rack had to be impressive seeing it in front of you.

Hopefully he is ABM....The rack was flown out earlier that day with an ****** to Anchoarage. I wish I could have seen it..The guy had a few pictures he was showing around the airport. I would say his height was 5' 10. When he held the rack is was atleast 2 foot taller than him....

He had a smile on his face that no one could take away....

Jersey Joe - Thanks for the information. Boy, that is quite the rack for sure - and like ABM said here' s hoping the fellow that shot it is OK following his seizure. A guy would want to be around for a lonjg time to revel in that trophy!

ABM - Nice griz pic! Looks to be in great condition - he' s probably one of the North Slope musk ox killers that they were talking about on the Alaska News TV program tonight. I may have gotten in wrong, but I believe they stated that the bears have accounted for 13% of the musk ox kills in the past year - and that they seem to be getting better at it - even just killing them for the hell of it and not eating them. A new form of " blood sport" , I guess? Anyway, nice shot - how much of a telephoto lens magnification are you using?

I' m using a 12X digital zoom sony camcorder, but I can change modes on the camcorder and make it a digital camera. I' ve got a memory stick in the camcorder that I take out and plug into the hard drive and the pictures pop right up. I' m very happy with the quality.

I was about 25 yards from this bear. I got some more pictures of him tonight, but he was a little more ill tempered, and mock charged me, so I let him be. Here' s a picture of him right after the charge

I also got some film of this guy running around. Got a bunch more photos as well, some that I' m real happy with. The video looks even better than the picture quality though, I love this new camcorder!

Hey Jerry,

Was curious as to what sony you got? We have one and she just went tits up. Not quite sure why. Got some sweet footage of sheep this year with it. Showed it to Dawn one nite, showed it to a neighbor the next and something happened between those two. It dont sound right and the screen is all messed up.

Also our pictures, when taken as such really stink. The video is ok.

Dan, I picked up a Sony DSR PD-150. Which one did you guys use? It sounds like your heads could be clogged up, do you have a head cleaner tape? My other sony ate it too, so instead of sending it off to get fixed, I upgraded.

So far I' ve been real happy with it. I played around with that grizzly again last night and got within 25 yards, but he started getting frustrated with me. Sure wish I had the camcorder running when he charged. [&:] I' m working on some cutaways for a documentary that is being done up here as well.

How did your sheep hunt go? You getting any other hunting in this year besides guiding? I talked to my bro this morning, he just about filled his cow tag. Guess he' ll have to wait until November if he can' t score tonight.

ABM - Jesus, just looking at a brownie that close gives me the " willys" !! [] No thanks. Was it popping and gnashing its teeth during the false charge? You' d have had to take a fire hose to me to get me cleaned up - probably would have had to ride back to camp in the back of the pickup!

Found out I can take pictures on the memory stick off of already recorded film. Sweet! Took me a while to get the shutter to snap just right, but I finally got this picture...

Here he is in opera mode. Look at them chompers!

The quality isn' t as good off the video compared to when I take the picture in the field, but you can get more video that way by not switching to memory picture mode and have to stop filming.

Pretty foggy tonight, so he got a break. Leaving the slope to become VBM again on Thursday.

Wow dude, our videos werent as good as those pictures imho!!! But then again we didnt pay that kind of money. Came home from a TDY one time to find this camera laying on the table with a receipt for almost 800 bucks, GASP, and yours is 3K! LMFAO!!! I' d upgrade if I could but for now it aint going to happen due to $$$. Eventually though I will. Get this, burnt out the zoom motor on my exspensive 35mm lens while out in moose camp trying to get stinkn northern lights pics. What a year, kill me now lol! I figure if I get in a little plane again, WE ARE CRASHING!

I was actually contemplating coming up for caribou but keep hearing reports of nothing around. Adison has my 4 runner fixed so I need to head to anch to pick it up. Was gonna do the kenai fishing this weekend but found out a really good friend and his boy are headed up this weekend (was thinking it was next weekend oops) I am stuck as I have a ride to anchorage thursday nite with another bud and his wife. I can pick it up and swap vehicles on my way through up north. Actually probably could ride with him which would be the smart thing to do. I had a goat hunt planned which is falling apart also. IF I go, I' ll be going alone. I' ve always wanted to do it long before I arrived in ak. Goats and caribou that is and I' ve done plenty of bou hiking. The more I " hunt" the manage ment area, the more I am disgusted with the hole deal. Maybe it has something to do with how this year has shaped up who knows. Hopefully next year, if I dont find a real job first, I' ll start out in brown bear camp, then head south with my cpt' s lisc and do the charter boats till the end of summer. We' ll see......
