I am in agreeance that WDFW pretty much just loves money and doesn't give a darn about the wildlife. I have yet to see a Wildlife Biologist of any sort in the woods where I live. I am in the woods almost daily during the summer through winter months. How do they know how to manage wildlife that for all they know doesn't even exist. Take for instance Western Washington's Turkey season. I personally think I should be shut down and I hunt the darn things. Have for 6 years. Had an opportunity to harvest one this year but passed just because it was 1 of 2 toms I had heard of in the WHOLE COUNTY! Kill those two toms plus a couple more jakes and you aren't going to have turkeys to hunt in SW Washington. But I bet ya one thing, our DFW will still be selling those tags. Another example is the number of anterless permits for elk in SW Wash. I don't really like it. A couple of farmers complain and the WDFW opens anterless permit seasons for 15 day on/off intervals for4 months straight??I have steadily watched elk numbers fall (though there are increasing branch bulls #'s due to 3 pt. minumum) in recent years. Elk herds sizes are down from 40-60 to 8-35. The WDFW doesn't know these things because they aren't out there. They sit behind their desks and ask us. Well, what in the heck are they getting paid for?

That was long.. Just how I feel.. Had to vent.. Sorry..
You make a good point, I've been to the WDFW meetings, they just don't listen, and last Elk season I didn't see a single game warden.

Brush Hunter, you're right...I only remember the liberal hunt-any-season-you-want from hearing my uncle and others talk about it. It would be great if it was still that way, but there are too many hunters and not enough game to go around. However, when I first started elk hunting you could hunt both sides of the state with the same tag. I do remember that although I never took advantage of it. My elk hunting now is mostly in the Little Naches and Taneum units. Went with muzzleloaderlast year, will be going rifle this year, just because the later season fits better with the other hunts I have planned. If I had the time and money this year I would have taken advantage of that multi-season elk permit I drew, and I would have hunted the late muzzleloader season here on the westside, if I wasn't successful killing a spike on the eastside. Good chance I would have bought a bow as well, and hunted the archery season for a week in September. But I've got too many other hunts to do...high buck hunt in September, mule deer in Oregon first part of October, mule deer in eastern wa. for 9 days if I'm not successful on the high hunt, and pheasants in southeast wa. as much as possible in November/December.

The lack of game wardens is directly related to the lack of money. I'd like to see them raise the price of deer and elk tags, and increase the number of game wardens, by a substantial amount. They ought to have game wardens that concentrate on wildlife, rather than fish. As it is now it seems they spend most of their time harassing the steelhead/salmon fishermen. When they do go out on opening day of deer/elk seasons, seems to me they're spending too much time worrying about checking people for loaded guns in vehicles and not wearing orange. It shouldn't be the state's job to protect the stupid. I'd like to see them going after the hard core poachers, and hunters who are committing more serious violations that affect our wildlife populations, and taking away opportunity for the honest hunters.

If the game wardens we have now would get off there lazy butts, with just the fines alone they could double there numbers. I tried useing the poching hotline last season to no avail. There was a group of hunters with four Elk heads in there camp for five days, none of them taged. Couldn't get the game department to come out. This was in the Marble unit on the 83 road.

Good point, they could fund more wardens by writing more tickets. I really don't know why they don't get more agresssive and go after the guys who are commiting the serious violations rather than trying to pinch road hunters for a loaded gun in the truck. Who cares! Go after the poachers. And like I said, I think they waste too much time on the fishermen.

I guess it's becouse the fisherman are an easy catch. All they have to do is drive up to a boat dock and wait for them to come in.

I am not so sure that more Game Wardens are the answer to anyones problems when it comes to game management in Washington State. They are simply out there making sure that everyone (sportsman) follow the regulations set by the state and wdfw whilethey are in the field hunting/fishing. I personally dont need someone looking over my shoulder making sure that I am safe, that is what hunting partners and hunters education is for. As for them writing more tickets, that sounds good until it is you that gets ticketed. And as for calling the game warden on a hunting party, did you try mentioning the fact that theymight want to properly tag their animals before they get ticketed? who knows, maybe they would have thanked you for your concern and simply taken care of it. As a fellow sportsman, i would want to help somebody out/ have someone help me out before trying to get em busted! And hey, if this state sucks so bad and the $165 is too much.....quit hunting or go to another state were there are more hunter friendly regulations, but it will cost a heck of alot more. I spent more on beer last week than the multi season tag costs.

First off we do need more enforcement for the stupid people, and you know there out there. 2nd I don't think I'll be getting any tickets, you see I read the game laws and follow them. 3rd, take care of my fellow sportsman? If you can't read the rules stay out of the woods. (I'm not out there to babysit). Besides this jackass were sited three years ago, I think they know they have to tag there game. 4th, Why do we need to spend extra when we pay plenty all ready? Lastly, I don't like the way the game dept. is running the show, how ever I try to get things changed. As far as quit hunting, thats for the sheep the only follow. So I quess I won't be quitting anytime soon! Gee if we could get fees were they should be you would have another $165 for beer. Some peoples money comes harder than others. Let's not make hunting a richmans sport in the state of Washington.
