well if you hunt muleys, it could be 40 yards out to 400 yards. you can find them in the trees or in the flats. do you what part of the area you are going to? are you going north of I-90 or to the south?
as for deer pop, you see 100+deer in your hunt. average rack size mostly 2 year old 17"-19" spread muleys. and basket rack whitetails. hard to find the 3-4 year old bucks here. most people hunt for food not rack size around here.
give me more infor, i could give some ideas to get you going.

if you are going to the north of I-90. go though sundance and head north to hullet. just out of town and take a hwy to cook lake. go 2-3 milesand you will get to the top of the ridge. there is some state land there and there are a few muleys. it is very steep there. if you keep going into national forest it gets into more whitetail area. hunt the oak ridges here. lots of water also, find a closed gate and walk in 1-2 miles and you will be all alone.
good luck and have fun!

We hunted that area last year the week before Thanksgiving, a couple of weeks after the season opened. I don't know if the bucks were picked over or what, but we only saw small bucks (spikes and forks). Does were everywhere, but the bucks were few and far between. Hunting pressure is pretty high, but if you can get away from the roads, you wont have too much competition. Closer to Sundance in the national forest it was about 50-50 mulies to whitetails, but farther north the woods gets thicker and we saw more whitetails. It is a beautiful area and a really fun hunt. I hope to make it back in a couple years.
