Hevi Shot choke tubes?
Will Hevi Shot pattern well out of a Choke Designed for steel, Or do you need a choke designed for Hevi Shot? This is for pass shooting Geese. I need a real tight pattern to drop em. I have full and etra full for steel and modifyed and full for lead. Havent got a chance to pattern them yet.

RE: Hevi Shot choke tubes?
I bet you have a 835 or 935 Mossberg
Yes a steel shot tube will work .
BUT Hevi shot patterns so tight that I would not recomend them.
I recomend that you go no tighter than the MOD .
Pattern that tube and I bet you will like the results .
I use a Rem 870 and only shoot a Mod for pass shooting and it is to tight if I was to shoot decoying birds.
Even with Hevi shot ,Please be ethical no HAIL MARRY shooting , try and use 60 yds as a max.
From your Member details you are 100 years old , think you need to update it ??

RE: Hevi Shot choke tubes?
Accually I do have a 835 but only use it for turkey. I shoot a Remington "Spartan" O/U for waterfowl. It came with real short lead only choke tubes so I bought a full set of after market extended chokes for steel which I want to pattern w/hevi shot. I will pattern #4, #2. and B's. I want a real tight pattern for those passing Geese.

RE: Hevi Shot choke tubes?
I know the gun ,it's made be Baikal ,I have a 20 gau O/U
Check inside diamiter of the steel shot tubes .
Dose 1 of them measure close to the lead only MOD tube if so I would try it .
Hevi shot patterns real tight so a Mod tube = full ,IC = a tight mod and Skeet = a mod.
If you over choke Hevi shot the over all pattern will loosen up with a real dense center.
For geese I use #2 reloads that are a little faster than the Rem 3" 1 3/8 oz load
Are you reloading the Hevi shot ?
I use Reloading specialties data ,because their loads are lots faster than Balistic products.
If so I use the 3" Cheddite hull .
I found that the 1 1/2 oz load did not pattern realy any tighter than the 1 3/8 oz load
The BB loads will give you extra range ,but I found that it tore up closer geese . I only load 1 goose load.
For ducks I use 2 3/4 " Fed gold medal hulls with 1 1/4 oz of 6,5,or 4 for ducks ,the 4 load works good for decoying geese
I also load 1 1/8 oz of 7 for teal and decoying ducks
