is it true that when it is colder out the grouse get up slower?

I don't know that I would say slower. I would say that they sit longer. Like any animal it costs them more energy in the cold to stay warm. So if danger will go on by they will sit, or walk out. This uses less energy than flying. I have seen pheasants do the same thing.
