How early do you get out? Do you use locator calls to locate them? What all do you look for while out? ( scratching, feathers, etc) ANY OTHER INFO WOULD ALSO BE APPRECIATED

i went this a.m., i got up at 4:00 a.m., was out in the woods by 6:00a.m., i listened, then i hoot owled a couple of times, got the others talking so i didn't have too, lol.......still nothing but a hen clucking as she walked through the woods, better of been a hen , lol.......so i decided to walk around, i found hen droppings and some semi fresh strachin'.....i followed a real nice set of gobbler tracks into the woods, i never did see or hear a bird, walked up some deer though, they didnt have a clue i was there
....i would of liked to find a strutt zone or some dusting bowls...but there's still 2 weeks, so i'll be out there again.......

A dust bowl....is a depression normally in clear areas or sparse..hay fields sand pits where turkeys flapp there wings to get dust and sand on them...Right now all i can look for is tracks lol
...I look for anything....poop, feathers, tracks, turkeys, nice trees they might roost in.
I bring a crow call and a box call...call a few times for heck of it lol

The big three I look for are, tracks, droppings, and scratchings. Other things to look for are feathers and dust bowls. Even strut marks in sandy soil.
I look for patterns in the sign I found. For example, on a piece of land I can hunt back home, I finally found the place they cross a swamp between two high areas with consistent sign. Now I have a good idea how the birds are working between the two areas. I also found some droppings, positioned so that I know they use two trees in an area to rest under.
Finding secal droppings is also good. It let's you know they roosted nearby and came to that place right off the roost. Knowing where popular roost trees are is also a very desirable piece of the puzzle.
Of course, seeing and hearing birds is also a good thing to pay attention to when scouting. What time of the day I saw or heard them is important to a pattern.
