I was invited to go Turkey hunting with some people but Ive never done it before, I dont have a license, what do I need to do to get one? I have a 12 gauge shotgun, do those do the trick with turkeys? Also if you can can you guys give me some Turkey Hunting tips because ive never done it before. Thanks

You need a license and the requirements vary from state to state. Your 12 ga is a good choice and if it has choke tubes use a full choke or the tightest one you have. I like #5 shot but there are many people who use 4 or 6 and some use the combo shot. Easiest call to master is a box call but the cheapest is a mouth diaphram call. If you go you will probably get hooked on the sport and find yoursellf buying several differewnt calls. Safety is real important and hopefully your friends will instruct you on the different aspects of turkey hunting safely. Best bet is to go out the first few times with an experianced turkey hunter and learn how to call and set up. Good luck.

Have patience, don't move around much and learn to call. Set up is very imporant. Turkey hunting is something that gets in your blood quick, you'll know what I'm talking about when you hear your first Gobbler in the morning or see one strutting. Welcome.

No Icedragon I didn't mean to sit it out. One really effective tactic to bag a wary gobbler is to double team them. One person does the calling and the other sits 25 yards between the turkey and caller. Often the turkey will come to the call and then hang up just out of gun range. If everything works out the turkey will be too far for the caller to shoot but will be in range for the other person. There are lots of different techniques and one way to see how they work is to learn from another more experianced hunter. Another way to learn is to just go out and try stuff and learn by trial and error. Believe me there will be far more busted hunts than successful ones. That is what makes it really special. Just remember safety is the most important factor. Turkey hunting can be dangerous if other people are in the woods and are after the same birds. Don't try to stalk a gobbling bird and always set up with your back to a large tree and call out if you see another hunter. I have orange pull outs on my vest and use them when I am moving in the dark. Either way I think you will really like the sport. Like wv singleshot said when you hear that first gobbler answer back it will put a chill down your neck.

O ok so it can also be effective to hunt in pairs? Like one person does the shooting and the other does the calling. That seems like it would be fun to hunt with someone.
