RE: First time going Turkey Hunting
No Icedragon I didn't mean to sit it out. One really effective tactic to bag a wary gobbler is to double team them. One person does the calling and the other sits 25 yards between the turkey and caller. Often the turkey will come to the call and then hang up just out of gun range. If everything works out the turkey will be too far for the caller to shoot but will be in range for the other person. There are lots of different techniques and one way to see how they work is to learn from another more experianced hunter. Another way to learn is to just go out and try stuff and learn by trial and error. Believe me there will be far more busted hunts than successful ones. That is what makes it really special. Just remember safety is the most important factor. Turkey hunting can be dangerous if other people are in the woods and are after the same birds. Don't try to stalk a gobbling bird and always set up with your back to a large tree and call out if you see another hunter. I have orange pull outs on my vest and use them when I am moving in the dark. Either way I think you will really like the sport. Like wv singleshot said when you hear that first gobbler answer back it will put a chill down your neck.
