Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Turkey Calling for Coyotes

Last year while turkey hunting I was lucky to bag a nice 7 and 1/2 inch bearded tom. But before that, I thought it was soo funny that a coyote tried to get my turkey decoy. I was wondering if anyone else had this happen. I might just have to take out a turkey decoy and get the calls going for a test run this weekend and try to bag a coyote.

I thought about doing the same thing. I have not called in any coyotes here, but I know of a couple of people that have. I tried predator calls, but without any luck.

You'll also be educating your turkeys.

You won't be educating them if you do this in an area where the turkeys are not using during the fall or winter. They won't be there to hear you. In my area the turkeys roam around a lot during this time of year and they could be here today and gone tomorrow.

a couple of years ago, i shot a coyote while turkey hunting. we had just seen two birds that seemed to be heasding from one field to another, so we set up in the other field. maybe ten minutes into calling, i saw a dog's head appear, and was ready to move, until i realized what it was. my buddy never saw it, i shot it only about eight steps from us. he thought i had gotten a bird, and was very surprised at what it was. the coyote was looking for the bird that she could hear. the following year, same area, same friend, saw a coyote come in again while i was calling, but couldn't get a bead on it. when we went to the local check in station the year i got the coyote, they said that i was the third or fourth hunter that season to have the same thing happen to them. so yes, they like turkey as much we do. can't hurt to try it.
