I see some states allow shot larger than #4. Has anyone ever tried the #2 or other larger shot? How did it work? Are the larger pellets only used in duplex loadings?

I met a biologist from Iowa who recommended #2's as the second shot. More likely to break a bone or get penetration to the vitals. He stuck with #4's or 6's as the the primary load though.

My opinion on #2 is that they start getting a little big and slow the shot down , this leaves a drop in your shot or your tajectery is not as flat. This can cause the hunter to start hitting low from where he would want. 4-5's are a great load for birds in range and 6's will fill the gaps in the pattern...BT

i think duplex 4's and 2's would be a DEADLY combo id love too see the pattern...that would hit sooooo hard it be a great load if it patternd good...but ive never shot more than 4...exxcept steel...

Hey Wingbone #2s are illegal in Iowa. Just letting you know. I do not recomend you use #2s. First of all not only do they not pattern very well, most states do not allow it because 2s are to dangerous.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT NEED TO CHECK WITH YALLS GAME WARDENS . I REALLY LIKE 5 SHOT WITH MY BARREL AND CHOKE. EXPERIMENT WITH THE SHOTS THAT ARE LEGAL IN YOUR STATE AND IM SURE YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS GOOD FOR YOU.
