Default Shot placement on turkeys

Last year I decided to take turkey hunting up a notch and hunt them with my bow, I started off on a good note, I shot a nice gobbler in the spring and in the fall up here in Michigan. The only problem is my shot placement, it does a number on the breast of the bird and I like to deep fry my turkey. Any advice on shot placement will be well appreciated. I also noticed that the first bird I shoot, the arrow stayed in the bird and he did not go far at all, compaired to the second bird I shot when the arrow went right threw him, the bird took off like a bat out of h@ll. is this just a coincidence.

If you have enough confidence shoot them in the head. Shots at the base of the tail are good if they are in full strut facing away from you, likely to come out the breast though, I' d rather have the arrow go through the breast before the body cavity. From the side you can get into the vitals and go behind the breast. shoot at the top of the wing butt, not much leeway for error though.

I' d forget the head shots. to small of a target and it moves to often.
shoot for the wing if he' s standin broadside, shoot for the back if he' s facin away not in strut, shoot for the anus if he' s facin away in full strut, the only shot you have if he' s facin you, is goin to hit the breast. so, if your dead against takin that shot, then you' ll have to wait till he turns. myself, I' m gonna take any shot I can get.
as far as passthrough, if you use a wide cuttin broadhead say 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" and turn your poundage down, then the arrow should stay in the turkey, which is what you' d want. good luck!

Agree with bogobble, forget about head shots with a bow. Take the high percentage shot in the chest. Yes you are going to damage some breast meat on some of the shots you take.

Another thing I have heard helps in keeping the arrow in the bird is putting a washer in-between the shaft and broad head.
