I've never turkey hunted before andI was thinking about trying it this year. I have a Remington 870, but it will only shoot 2 3/4 inch shells. Will this gun work for turkeys or do I need a 3 inch?

A 2 3/4 will work. Buy some turkey loads and pattern your gun with a tight choke and you'll be fine. Your effective range will just be a little shorter. Once your addicted to turkey hunting you can spring for a new shotgun. Unless you really want an excuse to buy one now. If thats the case ya a 2 3/4 won't work very well. Good Luck!!!

My 835 will take any size shell but I always use 2 3/4".A good pattern is what counts. When the bird's in range aim for the middle of the neck. That gives you the most margin for error.

If you are getting a good pattern and know your effective range no trouble at all.I think some guys think just cause they shoot 3-to-3-1/2 's they can take a turkey over 50yds wheres the fun at least in my opinion 40 and under or closer You'll find 2-3/4 shells a whole lot cheaper I had good luck with winchester double xx mags when I shot 2-3/4 in 6 shot

Oh yea man you will be set! I have killed 3 turkeys with 2 3/4 shells. You will do great with them. i have mainly used 4 shot for the little extra punch and a longer range. Good Luck to ya brother!

2 3/4 will work just fine - You do need to pattern so you know your lethal distance.

Which I suspect CAN be at 40 yards.

but true turkey hunting is calling the bird up closer than 40....
