when is the best time to use a gobbler call, and which one to use in what situation, theres the mature call and the jake call. i know they are dangerous to use, but if ur on private land, people have told me to give em a wirl. i just dont know when the best time of the day to use em or what part of the season, but i am asuming the ealier part. and using a jake decoy with the gobble call or with out. can i use the jake decoy alone or do i need a hen with em. any tips would be great!!! this is my 3rd year turkey hunting and was blessed enough to bag a 22 pound doulde bird with a 6 and 10 inch beards and 1 inch spears last year. but i had alot of birds hang up on me and wanted to give new tactics a try!!! any help would be great thanks again!!

The only success I' ve encountered using a Gobbler/Jake call is when the Birds have gotton Lock jaw for some unknown reason or a bird is locked up just out of sight. We have used the fighting Purr in addition to several Gobbler calls in about a 15 minute sequence. All your imitating is two Gobblers going at it, BUT, this is the kicker, when all of this ruccuss is going on, you cant hear a thing(other hunters or birds) so be very picky on when and where you do this. All of the birds I' ve taken using this method came in HARD & FAST , some were gobblin the whole way some were just running around in circles looking. We have pulled birds in from so far it wasnt even funny. Be careful anytime you plan imitating a Tom in the woods cause everything from Coyotes to People come looking for you !
