Input on a new turkey gun
#11
I got the super nova with the steady grip (pistol grip), 24" stock, and in camo for $499 from Basspro. It comes factory tapped for a weaver mount, too. I took it out for a dove shoot on the last day of dove season and hit better than I ever have. It is a fine gun. As far as pumps go I think it has a pretty quiet slide. Again, I recommend it.

its cheaper because its a pump gun, not an automatic. My supernova has the same comfortech stock as a Benelli Super black eagle 2. No doubt 3.5"s kick much harder then a 3". Besides patterning your gun when you shoot a few times, you only have to shoot once maybe twice a year I can deal with a little harder kick. The 870 is a great gun, has a great reputation and has served hunters across the country. Im just trying to give you some options. BTW I paid $369 for a supernova with a pistol grip stock and Realtree camo at Gander mountain. You can get black sythetic Supernovas comfortech stock at Sportsman wearhouse for $299.

Don't confuse the supernova with other benelli's. It's cheaper for a reason. Not knocking anyone who has one, but it's not exactly the top of the line. If you don't want to spend over $600.00, then the supernova will be fine. I would suggest the 870 if you can afford it. Remember this though, if you get a gun to use for turkeys and other birds such as ducks, doves, or quail, I would not recommend the thumbhole or pistol grip. They are great turkey guns, but it's difficult to use them for fast flying birds. I have the Rem. 870 SPS-T thumbhole and use it soley for turkeys. I would agree you should probably use 3 inch shells. The turkey loads in 3 1/2 kick like ****. You can buy a supermag though and shoot 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2 inch shells. Don't let me talk you out of buying anything, just an opinion. BTW, you can buy an 870 supermag in black synthetic for about $300.00 to $350.00. It comes with a 26'' barrel. You can use it for all game. Add an extra 50 bucks or so if you want it camoed.

Well almost 25 isn't too young,lol
I could probably handle a 3.5" but I'm sure they'd probably be more kick than I want. I need to get out and handle a few guns, that's for sure.

Is the Super Nova , not the 3.5 gun ? I believe the Nova is the 2 3/4 -3" gun. I shoot the 20gauge Nova for a turkey gun [8D]
Anyways only wimps shoot 12 gauge guns, why not try a 20 gauge for turkey, now real turkey hunters are changing to them

Just kinding ya all, I remember the day when something like that was said on here and the computer screen could not handle all the replies at once that came back LOL you guys are getting crusty in your old age [8D]I'm still confused here as to why a 25 year old women would want to spend a bunch of money to get a shoulder kicking from a 12 gauge turkey gun

Does No one believe a 20 gauge can perform like a 12 gauge ?
The comment on the cheaper Bennelli's (Nova) are what you pay for is correct, but with a small amount of funds and a like elbow grease you can turn one of them cheaper guns into a fine turkey gun.
Here is a Bennelli Nova with about another $150 bucks put into it and I will never carry a 12 gauge again in the turkey woods.

This gun can and will keep up with most 12 gauge guns on the range. It is now a 40+ yard gun and I hope that the money I have invested in new chokes will produce it to be a 50 yard gun. I'm stretching the views on a 20 gauge to a large point, but I believe this gauge can do it. If it don't then I still have a (No questions asked) 40 yard turkey gun.
Now when it comes to a lady, why can she not put togeather the same type of gun. She all ready has the mossy Bantom in a 20 gauge, I would suggest that she takes that gun and starts to redo and build that gun, or if she needs it for deer only, then yes get another that is strickly for turkey...

Adrian...sure a 20 guage can do the job just fine. If there are any doubters, then just go over to the NWTF forums and look some of the patterning that has been done with a 20 guage guns. There seems to be a pretty big movement going that direction, especially since shotshell loads and chokes are getting better every year.
turkeygirl2...I shot a Remington 870 SPS-T with thumbhole and I absolutely love it. The most comfortable gun that I have ever shot. As superstrutter stated, you most likely wouldn't be able to use this gun for any "fast-moving" game. If you really want a Mossberg, then you can get a thumbhole stock in the mossberg as well. I had a Mossberg before I had this Remington and I will say that I am really glad that I got the Remington. Seems like a much more solid gun, in my opinion. My thoughts on the whole Benelli versus Remington argument is, as the old saying goes, you normally get what you pay for and there is reason why the Remington 870 is the most popular selling shotgun of all-time
. If you did decide on the 870 SPS-T, it is capable of shooting 3.5" shells. Try it out once, and if you feel you can handle it, then great, however, if you can't handle it, then just buy a 3" shell. I will tell you this...I don't think I would want my wife to try and shot a 3.5" shell. It does kick like a mule...

see if you really want to get a gun that kicks like a mule, get a H&R pardner turkey gun in a 12 guage, you can get it with extra full or full, i have full and it does fine at 40-45 yards, but it kicks like a mule, (but i am 14) and its cheap you can get it at a local gander MT. for 160 and it comes with a sling.
