Default RE: Input on a new turkey gun

Adrian...sure a 20 guage can do the job just fine. If there are any doubters, then just go over to the NWTF forums and look some of the patterning that has been done with a 20 guage guns. There seems to be a pretty big movement going that direction, especially since shotshell loads and chokes are getting better every year.

turkeygirl2...I shot a Remington 870 SPS-T with thumbhole and I absolutely love it. The most comfortable gun that I have ever shot. As superstrutter stated, you most likely wouldn't be able to use this gun for any "fast-moving" game. If you really want a Mossberg, then you can get a thumbhole stock in the mossberg as well. I had a Mossberg before I had this Remington and I will say that I am really glad that I got the Remington. Seems like a much more solid gun, in my opinion. My thoughts on the whole Benelli versus Remington argument is, as the old saying goes, you normally get what you pay for and there is reason why the Remington 870 is the most popular selling shotgun of all-time. If you did decide on the 870 SPS-T, it is capable of shooting 3.5" shells. Try it out once, and if you feel you can handle it, then great, however, if you can't handle it, then just buy a 3" shell. I will tell you this...I don't think I would want my wife to try and shot a 3.5" shell. It does kick like a mule...
