how do you tune a striker tip?? i made a few that are worthy of being used this year and after calling with them they got glass and slatek all over the tips and lost their great sound...do i just sand it off or what?? they sounded so sweet now they are a bit sqeeky....any help?? thanx..i have a few that did that to me...i think its because i always forget to wipe the call off after i sand the surface and itgets all in the wood...im going to have to start remembering...

Over time all striker tips will start to "smooth over" no matter what surface you use them on.
Sand the tip to open the poors of the wood back up. (I use either a Scotch-Brite pad or sand paper in about 180 to 220 grit.)
Also, for a more mellow striker that is a bit easier to use, round the tip over. For a louder and more brash sound, leave the tip flat.

I hate to give this secret away but it is for hunting, have your wife sew a patch of green scotchbright to your vest at the bottom in the front, it lets you clean your striker tip with little movement and you can only leave it at home if you forget your vest. And yes replace it every year by cutting the threds.
