I need a slate call.

If you want a pure slate surface then there can be only two options.
You need either a Quaker Boy Walnut Master Series slate or a Blodgett Tough Country slate.
The Blodgett is my favorite, but it costs more.
Good luck

I saw that Lohman black thunder. I imagine it's a good soundin call.
I really liked my Lohman thunderdome.
but, IMO, their a little high on the price of that call.
Heck, I'll just go to walmart, and take all the slate calls
out of the package and try em out. <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>
usually somebody has already opened the package up anyway.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

The Ol'Yeller is probably the easiest call on the market to use by far especially for beginners.
Cody makes some excellent slate calls, but you pay for them but they are good.
Depends on what your looking for, wood pot, plastic, etc... you might also want to look at River Valley Game Calls slate...it sounds exactly what you are looking for. You can see them by going to the web site....just add .com to the name.

I didn't see but one slate call on river valley, and it was $22.00
a little more than i want to pay for a plain slate.
I'll probly go with the ole yellow, or his son<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have the RVGC slate and it's a good one but you certainly won't go wrong with the Sla-Tek of the Ol'Yeller..
Good luck and good calling.

thanks Rob. ole yellow is the one call that I've heard mentioned
more than any other friction call.
I think your right. can't go wrong with that call.
