I need a slate call.
I gave my thunderdome to my son.
any opinions on which is the best, most user friendly slate on the market? Edited by - bogobble on 01/18/2003 16:02:20 |
RE: I need a slate call.
Why buy 1 when you can buy 3 in 1 , The Quakerboy's Triple Threat versitile friction call that can alow you to achieve different Turkey sounds all in the one. Out of all the calls this call is in my vest. I don't leave home with out it....BT

I've had good luck with the Primos friconite call paired with a wood wise carbon striker it was very user friendly

RE: I need a slate call.
bogobble,
Do yourself a big favor. Get Knight & Hale's Ol'Yeller or a TPhunter slate call. Enough said. Edited by - ctwny1 on 01/19/2003 05:23:11 |
RE: I need a slate call.
Bo,as you well know theres a boatload of fine friction calls out there(slatecalls).I carry 3 with me that have proven effective in fooling ole tom turkey and alot of fall flocks as well.HS's triple glass,HS's littleduece2,and LewisStowe's Stomeaway slate!I'll interchange acrylic, rosewood, purpleheart, and plexiglass srikers between them all depending on what the birds are responding too.I try to keep things extremely simple in the turkey woods with a minimum amount of movement and found this last year I even used K&H's little lonesome hen plunger call in place of my slates because with a little adjusting, it was giving me the same sound and tone I was getting with my other friction calls not only with less movement but positive results too!

RE: I need a slate call.
I know all these calls ya'll mentioned are good. but I'm lookin
for a plain slate, pure slate, and nothin but a slate is the ole yellow a pure slate, or is it mixed with somethin else? I've heard nothin but good about this call. but again, I just want a pure slate. thanks for the suggestions guys!:) Edited by - bogobble on 01/19/2003 08:06:56 |
RE: I need a slate call.
Ahh, pure slate, my favorite friction call surface. As for production calls, Lohman has a new call this year, the Black Thunder, might be one to check out. Primos has one called the Power Slate I believe. Of course, with custom calls, theres literally hundreds, if not thousands (?) of calls to choose from.

RE: I need a slate call.
Try anything By Cody they are well worth the price. But if you want a cheap alternative that still sounds great try the Knight and Hale Ol' Yeller Sla-tek. I know it is not real slate but it is a great alternative. It was the first call I ever bought and still one that always goes with me in the woods
