See, thats the attitude I am talking about right there. Do you ever think of RESPECTING the hunters that are already hunting a spot? Most of the out of state people don't scout. They only hunt where they see the trucks parked. They "slide" in b/t a hunter and the bird he is calling to. Last year my cousin and I went. He had a guy come in and set up 25 yards from him. When my cousin let him know he was already there, the guy waved and lite a cig. I had another guy come up on me. I told him i was working a bird.. what did he do. get about 50 yards from me. take out his box call and call and call and call and call....and both of these guys were out of state hunters, oh yeah and from NC. Even the game wardens around here hate the out of state hunters and are talking about the problems they have to respond to b/c of this kinda behavior by A LOT of them.
And this post wasn't made b/c my "honey hole" got taken over or anything. Go to any SC WMA land during the first week of the season and you will see what I am saying.

BOOHOO your the only person this happens to. Your the only guy on here whos been had another hunter set up close by. It only happens in South Carolina, and NC hunters are the only slob turkey hunters around. I guess there is no private land in SC huh??
I guess NC money isn't good enough for the SCDNR.
Im done responding to you because I won't be near you or your precious birds on opening day or any other day.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the oven.

You got one thing right... Its all about money. And so there for we will have to put up with it.
ANd your smart attitude really shows your "stick together" side.
I have a valid point. Sc turkey hunting is going down fast b/c of the amount of out of state hunters coming in. My statement about the NC hunters comes from my experience. Are all like that? NO. One of my hunting buddy's is Orginally from SmithField. Since he has moved to SC, he also was telling the other day that something has to be done b/c of all the out of state hunters here b/c they have grown so much just in the two or three years that hes lived here. He is a very respectable turkey hunter.
I live on the NC line so there for its a problem with the NC hunters. I am sure the people who live on the GA line have the same problem, esp with the NWFT headquarters being down that way.
And no I am not the only person it happens to. I've only been hunting public land for two years now and I started doing it by choice. But i do feel for those who have to hunt public land b/c they can't afford a lease or club.
As for "can't stand the heat". When someone sets up 25 yards from you. Totally disrespects you. These aren't competetive things. They are unsafe and unethical.
Why do you want to come to SC and hunt? I am sure its b/c the turkey hunting is better here that in your area, right? But it won't be for long unless the SCDNR does something about it.
I wrote back and posted that my comment wasn't directed to you as a person, but I strongly stand beside my argument.

I don't have to explain myself but I will.
I've been turkey hunting towards a decade now. My dad has never killed a turkey. I was hoping for me and him to spend some time together at a private lodge and hopefully, me get him his first bird. Lord willing, us both take a bird or two. I want to make a memory or two. It would give me one extra weekend to turkey hunt, my favorite thing in the world to do.
It's ironic you started this whole thing because I took a co-worker from Rock Hill, SC who lives there now, last year on the 2nd day of season to my honey hole and called in his first turkey and watched him shoot it. A day after I DIDNT CARRY A GUN ON OPENING DAY and called another first bird in for a different friend and watched him shoot his first turkey.
Less than a week later I had some guy show up before daylight at a place I heard 10 different birds gobbling pre-season. He said he worked with the lady whos land we were on and she said he could hunt as well. He knew he may run into me. He told me he had never killed a turkey but he was hoping this was his lucky morning. I told him good luck. I never went back all season. I let him have the place to himself. I hope he killed a couple and got to have the thrill that I've had on a few occasions.
Your not talking to me. Your talking to hunters with no ethics, with no sense of woodsmanship, or respect for others. Your talking to a few guys who to you have obviously given NC hunters a bad name.
You show me some respect and I'll show you some. You dont gain respect by telling me to keep my ass in North Carolina. I'd tell you good luck if you were pumped for a hunting trip to NC, not jump on you.
I know this is just a message board and its easy to hide behind a screename but you only get one chance to make a first impression and I don't know many guys who could think too much of your comments especially directed at me, who wanted nothing to do with all this mess. I asked about a liscense...

GA probably says the same about us SC hunters.
They have a much longer season and allow sunday hunting on public land.
Living by a border brings that.
You can look at it two ways, the bad way or a chance to hunt other states.
I will be in NC this year for the first time.
I also have enjoyed hunting GA.
Don't let it ruin why we are out there.
Leases here are full of good guys from NC.
I can't say I blame them.
Good luck

if others think i am a bad guy by trying to protect my state from having to go to a lottery draw just to get a turkey tag like some other states are now. so be it.
I also rather turkey hunt than any other hunting. Thats where MY point comes in. Due to the over abundance of out of state hunters, the quality of hunting in this area has gone to ****. That just doesn't sink in to you.
If it wasn't becoming this way, I would be the last to say something about it.
Theres no way you can see my point unless you have lived here and hunted her for at least a few years now.
And for the "NC hunters". Like i said, all the ones that we had problems with last year were from NC. Most of this comes in play b/c the out of state hunters don't scout the area before they hunt. They just come in and hunt where someone else's truck is.
This isa topic that HAS to be a "bad" thing. Theres no winners in it at all.
As for you and your father. Good luck.. It is also my dream to pull a double with my father. he has never turkey hunted with me. We are supposed to go this year, with his work schedule and church schedule its hard for him to find the time.
Point blank.. I also love turkey hunting and love sharing it. I love getting new people involved. BUT it has come to the point where the quality of the turkey hunting is being driven down do to too many out of state hunters in the area. I don't know of one single person who would HONESTLY say that they wouldn't mind if their state's hunting quality was driven down by too many out of state hunters. You nor anyone else is going to make me change my mind or stand point.
It may make me look like an ass or like i am greedy, but what do you do when you have to win a lotto drawing to turkey hunt at all?

Gene, ask Bill his stand point on all of the out of state hunters in this area.

I'm not saying anybody's wrong.
Hunting turkeys in 5 states I've realized a few things.
Weekends on public landsuck no matter where you are hunting.
You can time when most out of staters will be there after a few years.
PA's first day I was in MD,why-had the woods to myself.
GA's I stay home.
SC's I'm there early.
Most NC guys I've known are here one week then stay home other than sundays.
When they get sunday hunting, things will change a little.
NC's bird population is starting to boom and some may not have to travel in the future.
After week 1 they are gone in areasI see them.
Every place close to a border has issues.

And thats why I would love to see SC pass a "resident only" first week on public land. A few states already have this if i am not mistaken. This would fix a lot of problems.
I see nothing wrong with hunting other states. I really don't. But, when it starts to become a problem to the residents and drives the hunting quality down, then something has to be done.
Alright, I am done with this post.
If anyone wants to futherthis discussion, PM me about it. I think everyone has had enoughof it.
