ORIGINAL: WV Hunter

hey skin

I was on your websites today....just curious, how is it that these are NOT part of the same company? I mean its basically the same camera...and the websites even have the same game cam pictures on them? I really don't care, but just curious I guess. Heck the original Covert is called Covert SG550 (as in scout guard 550) and appears to be the exact camera. ???

I will probably get the scout guard anyhow, just wondering what the deal is.

Thanks
Mike

Site has been very quiet for some time. Question Scout Guard550 battery installs My unit seems to operate on 4 batteries loaded into slot 3 and 4 . Will not operate with same batteries loaded in slots 1 and 2. Is that normal?? last week it was cool here -30 Camera was watching a garbage can in my yard for a local dog. It took about 50 pics at night and during the day all great and then it started to take pics like these. Notice the time stamp. It took about 50 pics like these and then back to normal. Any ideas??

hmm, Not sure about the pics. Seems like your unit definately has a glitch. As for the batteries, if youre running just 4 batteries, they go in the slots closest to the hinge on the battery door. Did you get his camera from me? If so, pm me and I'll get you the address to return it. Ill get you a new one out.

-30 is asking alot of a camera rated to -4. I've gotten good reports of the cams working well below -4 when taking pictures. Video seems to be where the cams have problems when you get below-4.

I just bought one of these cameras and love it. In the past two weeks it has been operating in someheavy rain storms along with temps ranging from 12F to 70F. I currently have it out on public land using the lock box that is designed for the scout guard with the python cable lock. I'll keep you posted on how it performs over the next few months.

Did this happen while you were running it on 4 batteries? It appears that if the power falls below specifications you could get that. I have always noticed that the pics will get dimmer or darker when this happens.Especially inbetween pics. Cold weather will also wreak havoc on batteries. I recommend you keep it on 8 batteries as 4 is listed for emergency or short term usage. Try that and let us know if it happens again on 8 batteries..............

After some testing slot 1 and 2 do not power the camera ever. Unit was on 1 bar for power and slots 1 and 2 batteries checked out at 1.6 volts. remainder were at 1-1.2 volts. Contacted my dealer to find out that he no can sell them but has offered to swap it for a Covert 2. I am going to go that route as this is my second cam since July. Yes I know its the same manufacture but .........

Sure they fell in love with that cam 5yrs ago because that's when they came out and how old mine is.
It still works pretty good but it's no comparison to my Cudde Captures for pic quality.
Video mode isn't that great because the resolution is so small.
I paid $195 5yrs ago.
I'll be honest with you, I wouldn't buy another one since it's technology is 5yrs+ old.
Go with something newer in the same price range.

Woops - I see this old post got spammed.
