BP doesn't attract moisture as easily as Pyrodex. It ignites easier than Pyrodex also.

Ever look at a Pyrodex pellet? It has a little blackpowder on the end that faces the breechplug / ignition source, to aid ignition. Real black ignities easier using caplocks / nipple ignition. Flintlock shooters will often steer you away from Pyrodex and over to Blackpowder also.
