Deal or No Deal?
#1
Well I already made the deal for this 2004 HH Wesley Special. Ebony riser, ivory tips, leather handle, riser overlay, perfect condition. Bow shoots 70#'s at 28". If I like it, it's going with me in 2009 for Moose.
Paid $330 including shipping, is it a "deal" or "no deal". I opted for deal
, now I have to pay for it [:@].

Since a Wesley Special sells for $500 + shipping new, I'd call it a deal.
Wonder why it's got all them silencer doohickies on it? It shouldn't need silencers at all.
Edit>>>
Did some snooping on HH's website. Ebony riser +$25. Wood overlays + $30. Ivory limb tip overlays + $75. You got the bow for pretty much half price, so I have to change my earlier call... It's a REAL good deal!

Sounds like a good deal to me.
On a side note, you won't need that much weight for moose. I haven't killed one (yet), but I did a lot of research before I went on my hunt a few years ago, and talk to several folks that hunt them. I wouldn't try it myself, but I've heard of them being killed with bows (trad bows) pulling under 50#. Not super-duper whiz-bang fastest-in-the-world bows either. As it was explained to me, moose get pretty narrow in the lower chest area and it doesn't take a tank-stopper to kill one.
Just a bit of info in case you don't really want to use that much bow. Don't you draw well over 28"? For the record, I took my [email protected] on my hunt.
Another side note--take some flu-flu's with Ace Hex-Head blunts with you. If I hadn't, I would have come home empty-handed. At least I got a nice mount for my office from the trip (a hen and rooster Spruce grouse).

Well, i'm probably not who you were asking, but I have been doing a lot of research lately and that seems like a pretty decent deal for a Wesley. And honestly... can you have too many bows?

Thanks guys. It seemed like a screaming deal to me also. Should be here today or tomorrow. Can't wait. Ever since I got my son his HH, I also wanted one.
LBR, thanks a lot for the advice on the moose hunt. I guess I was basing my decision on a few things including the three deer that I shot in the past few year. None of them were passthroughs. I even shot one at 8 yards that hit nothing but ribs and it didn't completely pass through, it did stick out the other side though. But I was using a 150magnus with bleeders and shooting around 50#'s at 29". Iwill go with either ace or grizzlys two blade for the moose tough. And yes, I draw at 29", so I should be pulling around 74#'s. I have a 64# Brackenburry recurve right now that I have no trouble with. But I know 10#'s is an aweful lot more.
But in any case, if it is too much weight, then it'll be good to know that I don't necessarily have to have that much pulling weight.
FWIW, I also ran the serial number by Craig at HH to make sure it isn't hot. Seems like there are an aweful lot of trad equipment gettign stolen lately.
Thanks again.

Wow--that's strange. I'll ask the obvious--are you getting good arrow flight? I know that gets overlooked a lot--robs penetration. Do your nocks fit on the string tight? That can be another problem. 'Course sometimes weird stuff just happens.
I'm not exactly a big game expert, but I do get to talk to a lot of folks. I've got pictures of a record book gemsbok that was killed with a 47@26 longbow--not a pass-through, but full penetration (broadhead stuck out the far side)--pretty big critter. Got pics of a black bear estimated to weigh at least 600#, shot with a 52 or 53# recurve, complete pass-through including the off-side leg. One of my best friends regularly gets pass-throughs on deer with his recurve, shooting 55#. I am pretty sure they all used 2 blade heads. 'Course I have shot rabbits with 82# and not get a pass-through, so go figure.
If it doesn't work out, Craig can probably shave 5-10# off. Good idea to check it out--I wound up with a "hot" bow about a year ago, but was lucky. I got the bow that I traded for it back, and I found out who owned that one, and he got it back.

Yup, very good flight. I'm thinking thoughit may be thevented four blade. I don't know ifif it has anything to do with anything, but I shotarrowtipped with the same setupinto a real decent compressed bail. When I pulled the arrow out, it was very tough and I had about a fist full size of hay sticking from the vents all intertangled. Make you wonder about vented blades. Anyway, I got the penetration I needed on the three deer, just none of the arrows were laying on the ground after the shot.
And I agree that things do happen sometimes.
