I am headed down to FL in a few months to boar hunt. I really want to switch to carbon and wanted to know if anyone had any experience hunting boars and what you used carbon or allum.

I have a lot of pigs under my belt and have taken them with both carbon and allum.

Either will get the job done as long as the broad heads are sharp and you have good shot placement.

Best shot is a 1/4ering away just behind the shoulder plate

Whatever shoots better to you. I like carbons for pigs. Just make sure if you do switch you dont go to light weight. yea, it may be faster, but your loosing energy down range which messes with penetration. Ive always used gold tips with cut up front heads. Every single shot(except one) ive made on an animal went through. The one exception went in the hind quarter on the right, blew through the hip bone and all the insides, and blew through the front left shoulder. Most of the arrow was out except for about 3 inches.

Penetration is important..

One guy I hunted with this year shot carbon arrows that with inserts and broadhead... weighed around 800 grains. Blew thru his hog and sunk into a log beyond the pig. Overkill.. but sometimes, with hogs... overkill is a good thing.

I've killed boars with both aluminum and carbons and had no trouble with either of them. I went just recently in Oklahoma in Dec. to hunt them and used my deer set-up which is was a 70lb. X-tec 28'' draw and a 355gr. arrow with a expandable 3 blade and shot one at 32yds and blew right thru him with no problem. Shot placement is critical in my opinion. They are built tough but with good shot placement they won't get away. A guy gave me good advice one time and told me to practice,practice,practice and when you think your good practice some more. LOL to ya!!

I want to use the new pse raidal x weave. They are 8.6 gpi. It will be 28"long tipped with a 100gr fixed muzzy. Does this sound too light? What is the lowest weight I should go for hogs or deer for that mater?

sounds good to me. Just practice and remember shot placement, shot placement.

P.S. how many # are you pulling?

I shoot aluminum for all game. The only thing I change on my set up is broadheads. I use a NAP Thunderhead 125 for everything except turkey. I'll switch to the NAP Razorbak, cut on contact for the bird.
