Im thinking about switching to a pendulum sight next spring and I have a few questions. First off how well do they work, can you hunt from the ground and a tree stand with it or does it have to be setup for one or the other? What kind would you suggest i know there are many different brands out there? I dont think i would ever take a shot more then 30 yards and here is my current setup:
PSE Firestom light outfitter
60#
29 " terminator hunters
shoot 220 thru chrono
100 gr. muzzys
thanks

I've never used a pendulum sight, but I'm pretty sure they work both on the ground and in the trees.
I'm not really sure why a pendulum is better for trees (someone please chime in here). I've always had great luck with my fixed sight and there seemed to be less to go wrong. I guess it may be a factor of how much you practice out of trees.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

I've used a Savage Pendulum Max for the past 3 season with good success. They work best for shots from a tree to level ground, as you need to stay within their parameters of 10-30' up a tree to 0-30ish yards out for them to work accurately. Shots in uneven terrain must be calculated to make sure they are within this zone for optimum results.
Savage recommends sighting their site in at ground level of 20 yards. However, this is a general recommendation which needs to be fine tuned depending on arrow speed. Mine is set at 25 yards. On level ground, that gives me a one pin set up out to 30ish yards, the farthest I'd shoot anyway.
From a tree, when set I get from 0-33ish yards, just aim, hold and release, no thinking about distance. The Savage is quiet, accurate and does what I want it to do, and I've been very happy with it.

Vince,
Yes, they work well!!! You sight them in on the groun first then shoot at approx. 15ft up and adjust from there. I think Savage is good but I hunt with a Preditor IV it is a little more trouble to set up but I think you will like it! It is quiet, bright and I can get out to 35+ yards shooting 268fps. Having one pin accurate from 0-35 yards is a big plus in a tree hunting situation.

My biggest concern is to have it work well from the ground also, I have had a chance or two to be able to jump shoot deer while walking in the woods. I also have seen you guys talk about accuracy out to 35 yards with 260+ fps and im only shooting about 220, i know that my arrows are on the heavy side with the terminator hunters im using and i will be planing to switch arrows that are a little lights like gold tips but i dont want to loose any Ke. I think my arrows are about 500 something grs. with 100 gr. tip included. I have been looking at the trophy ridge mantis guide series because i like the vertical pin, is this a good sight to use? I really dont want to spend the money on it if im better of with fixed sights. Im also planning on switching to the drop zone rest, I hope this makes a better setup then what i have. All this stuff i want to change is adding up to almost the cost of the bow when i bought it once i add in the new arrows so i want to make sure that It is the best choice and money well spent.
Thanks again for your help and time

I have jumped deer on the way to my stand, knowing I am sighted in at 25yards gives me enough confidence shooting from 15-35 on the ground(practice). But I also know 99% of my hunting is done from a tree. My set up has evolved every year, currently I shoot CX 300's which are about 400grs total with 100gr head(Muzzy 3 blade) and a Muzzy Zero Effect rest. Unfortunately every change costs $$$ sorry to say. I know in my case one change has always lead to another. This year I bought a fixed pin sight for the off season so I could practice shooting at 50-60 yards. I would NEVER take a shot that far at a live animal but it makes shooting one at 30 seem a whole lot easyer... As for the Trophy Ridge set up sounds like a real good combo! Also if you do change to a lighter arrow what you loose in wieght you gain in speed so your KE is going to be close to what you are now.
(Now I did it, opened a big can of worms)
Good luck with which ever way you choose to go.

Savage is the way to go for a pendulum sight. Ive had mine for that past 3 years love it. I mostly hunt out of a tree but I have shot a deer up a hill it tagged her right were I was aiming for
I have mine sighted in at 20 yards on the ground and im good any where with in a 15 yard radius or 30 yard diameter.
Hope this helps.
