SET_UP MATTHEWS LEGACY 70LBS trophy ridge matrix sight 5 pin doinker carbon rod stablizer HOT release muzzy zero effect rest
I have been shooting 4" vanes on carbon arrows ( BEAMAN ICS 400 26 1/2" and the new ACC KINETIC at 26.5" ) and always shot the above arrows with mechs
OING on an elk hunt and need to change over to fixed bh and cant get anything to shoot well All my BH dive low I have tried montec 100 and 125 and steelforce 100 and 125 and thunder head 100.
I recently tried 2314,s superlight with 5" helical feather and they are dead as on with my BH. I just hate the thought of going back to AL! hoping I dont have to fight a big drop at 40, 50, a60 yds.
What effect hose the helical feather have do you thing it might help set-up with carbon arrows??
THOUGHTS and help would be apprecaited! really fighting it here!!

I fletched up some ICS 400s with 4" right helical and slightly offset feathers about a week ago. I am also normally a 4" vane shooter and wanted to see how they perform.
As far as accuracy goes, out to 30 yards they hit right with the arrows with vanes. I have not had a problem with broadhead flight, but helical feathers should help with that 2 fold (equally fletched, feathers will normally stabalize better than vanes + you have the extra stabalization of the helical).
At 35 yards, the feather fletched arrows were hitting about 4" lower than the vane arrows. The trend continued and seperation increased as I moved farther out. I assume that had to do with the extra drag of the feathers.
Before going to feathers, you could try to put on a longer vane (5" ) and see if that helps the situation. Another option would be to put some helical on the vanes.
I don' t want this to become a which fletching type is better argument, but for hunting, I prefer vanes.
Do what you have to to get good broadhead flight, but you still have some yet to be tried options with the vanes.

Those aluminums are going to be splined different than the carbons. That alone can cause the difference in where they are striking. Especially when it' s a vertical displacement when shooting a release.
Take the carbon arrow. If it' s on target with the field tips, but low with the BH' s then a simple lowering of your nock point a smidge may cure the problem.
A good link, and a good place to start.

I generally get arrows fletched with helical feathers and offset vanes to group right along with each other out to 50 yards. After that, the vanes drop off a little quicker than feathers do. I' ll have two groups at 60 yards, with the center of the feather fletched arrow group noticeably higher than the vane fletched arrows.
I could easily be an exception though. My arrows are 32 1/2 - 33" long and heavy. Even my carbon arrows with feathers weigh around 450 grains. My aluminum arrows are nearly 600 grains.
But broadheads always shoot best for me with feathers.
