Iagree that they shouldn't be out there, or at least should be taught properly how to recognize and shoot within that range. However,I bet you would eliminate about 70 or 80% of the archers out in the woodsif you could enforce that rule.
Out of the people that I've known, and know, personally that hunt many of them have no clue what theirrange/limit is. They go buy what the weapon's effective range would be for someone who knows how to use it under ideal conditions. Instead of realizing their range is far more limited.I guess it's delussions of grandure or maybe some sort ofego thing.

People that don't know their range/limits should NOT be hunting any live animals.

It's a process of setting a limit, shooting at animals and then adjusting that limit accordingly. The weapon is really irrelevant in this. A person can just as easily make a bad choice or even worse, never limit himself with a 70 lb bow as he can with a 60 lb bow. A person who makes good choices is ethical with a 40 lb recurve and a person who makes bad choices or no choices will be unethical with whatever they use. Just look at how many people make unethical choices with high powered rifles.

just gotta put my .02 in this one, but first off, I am only relaying what my brother has told me and this is in HIS experience on live game not mine and you guys will probably have a million comments and questions that i cant answer to. I know very little about bow hunting, I have shot bows and used to be fairly good at killing milk jug caps at 10 yards. my brother is into bowhunting and i always wanted to get into in so he is helping me. now heres my brothersview on things when we were talking about draw weights...(he only shoots compounds anduses a release)
He used to have a bow with a draw weight of 105 lbs since he has gone down to 92.5 and he is going to go lower he is thinking about 60 to 70. not because its too much for him to draw cause he will draw that bow while talking to me (he doesnt have to stop talking to concentrate on the draw) he is dropping the weight because the bow and arrow combo will blow the deer off its feet and/or pin it to the ground temporarily. The deer will kick and struggle itsself off the arrow and/or get up and haul buggy down thru the woods,he waits the deer out after the shot and has tracked deer over 3 miles that were running dead on their feet. before he went that heavy for competition purposes he shot in the 60 to 70 lb DW class and when he shot deer he would get pass thrus and the deer would just kind of look around walk off and drop within 100 yards of where he shot them.
Now i wanted to go up to around 80 lbs DW but if things like this happen I will stay with what i have... around 70 lbs. or less... and yea i can draw 80 lbs would hate to think at 6'2" 225 lbs and handling steel all day that i couldnt do it.
So now what is important to me is not only a quick clean kill but also a fast recovery.

I recently ordered a Guide series huneter bowtech bow from gander mountain. I wanted 70 pound draw but I got a 60 pound. I love the bow and archery season is one week away and I want to use it this season. What do I need to do to change the weight of the bow to 70 pounds and how costly would it be?

I ordered a brand new pair of hunting boots from cabelas last year and they sent me the wrong size (because i ordered the wrong size). I gave them a call after telling them the boots were a half a size too large. They wanted me to send back the boots for an exchange... I told them deer weason was in two days and they gladly put the new ones in the mail while i hunted with the ones that were the wrong size. I sent the over sized boots back the day the proper size arived. No extra charge. So my point is give them a call and let them know you want the bow you paid for but hunting season is a week away. I am sure they can work somthing out for ya. Good luck.

Getting back to the post. You can get more pounds by twisting your buss cables up and twisting you string up the same, but stay with it bowtech specs. By doing this you put more pressure on the limbs and also raise the braceheight. Some times you string and buss cable don't stretch the same and this happens. When you buss cables stretchs you nock moves, the string it will not, but will your draw will get a little longer
