Northern Virginia is not the best place to be a hunter. Little hunting around here, most of the stuff in the further west counties like Loudon or Prince William is private or small or locked up. It is even hard to find a place to shoot more than 100 yards to get sighted in or practice without driving 2 hours.
Not sure if you are familiar w/ Clark Bros. or not. It' s still prolly a drive for you, but its located off Rte. 15 in Warrenton. They have a 100 yd. range and if you go on a weekday, its more than likely you' ll have the range to yourself for the 1st half of the day. They open at 9 A.M.

Quantico has an excellent deer population, but I' ve never hunted A.P. Hill, so I' m not sure about the deer there.

I have hunted the " HILL" one time before and saw plenty of deer.. I might try to do a little bow hunting in there this year but during gun season it is crazy the first few days and the last few. My brother was a federal firefighter on the Hill for a few years and hunted there and has some nice pics of some good quality bucks.. I know some people who swear by the place.

I have a few private places throught out the area around here and trying to get my hands on some more... maybe get a small club going in the next year or so... getting forta late this year but thinking ahead to next year and after... anyone interested in this idea let me know.. I am looking in the Stafford, Spotyslvania, and King George areas now but willing to also look and do some homework in other locations... just a small group that likes to hunt.....any other ideas let me know...

Welcome
I live in Stafford, along the southern border of Quantico off of 610/612. I hunt at either Phelps WMA or Quantico.

I live on the 610 area myself...not as far down as 612.. closer to parkridge..

O2B... thats a hell of a deer off of the hill..... I know they are in there though... my brother was always seeing them when he was on duty at the base fire station.. most evenings thats all they did was ride around in the pumper or brush truck and look at deer on base...

..still waiting to hear about this skeet shoot!!! also the idea of froming a new club next year!

Anyone else up for shooting some skeet soon?

eng40sqd - Im up for a ' hunt club' next year. Guess our best bet is to see how much land we can acquire, for how much $, and how many people.

Hey Justin and all others,

I' m in the Woodbridge area myself, someone mentioned Richmond area I use to hunt a club there. They run a lot of dogs in charlescity area as well for hopewell. But I' ve had some great success!

Keep in touch, I' m hunting this season with a co-worker in WV a few times lots of good size deer on his property.

The funny thing is I' m right off route 1 and Dale Blvd I see deer every morning in this little strip mall area about 3 mins from my house. Biggest yet was a 6 pt. , thinking if I should find out who the owner of the land is...lol

vasavage.. It wouldnt hurt to try to find out.. I am an asst manager of an irrigation supply company... there is a patch of woods only like 20 to 30 acres behind the industrial park we are in... well I asked the property managment company and got permission to hunt it... its full of sign so I am hoping for the best. I also believe I have permission to hunt on 123 not too far from where the prison was..on the left side going toward faifax. I will know for sure this week. I have hunted with dogs before and still find pleasure in lstening to a good chase when I am with the right group, but grew up sittign in tree stands from dark to dark and find myself being drawn back to that!
