Running Dogs In VA
#21
Yeah, definitely don't shoot the dogs. I still hunt and dog huntand when the guys next to us say something about the dogs on their property we put 'em out in a diff. place. Just ask. Once we had dogs running a deer near some rabbit hunters a grandpa and grandson. The g-pa shot our dog because "It was messing them up."Nice example gramps. I hate people like that.[:@][:@][:@]

If anyone knows of an organization that is trying to stop deer/dog hunting in va. , please post their address. I know a few people who would love to donate money to help in the fight! As long as it is not PETA, they can have all my money!!!

i no longer dog hunt but i grew up dog hunting, i dog hunted for about 20 years. i was pretty much forced to give it up because of people with the same mind set as you. they would take the collars off the dogs so if any one caught them they could not be returned to their owner, pick them up and haul them to another county or just shoot them. this took place on public land that was approximately 350,000 acres...so land size was not the issue.

I'm new to this site but I have seen this same discussion on many other hunting sites and both sides appear to be deaf to what the other side is saying. I am a dog hunter but in recent years have gotten more into bowhunting. It's not that I don't enjoy dog hunting anymore but for me the bow hunting bug has just taken over.
I know there are some issues with dog hunting and trespassing and I do believe the VDGIF will help with this. I know some folks in the Game Dept and I did my internship there while I was in college. Whatever they decide won't appease everyone (impossible) but I guarantee things will improve.
Not trying to jack this thread but as an FYI to everyone, I have posted a survey in many of the forums here (including this one) that has questions regarding this issue as well as some others for our state. Please take the time to participate in my survey and this may help in voicing your opinions as I will present my data to the VDGIF after 30 days.

I don't know what all the smileys are about because there is nothing funny about your post. This is a hunting site and a SOUTH hunting forum and while I know dog hunting has its issues it is something many of us love and practice respectfully and legally. In the SOUTHin a lot of places we rundogs and to come on here and say you would donate money to ban somethingmany of us love and enjoy is questionable at best. If you don't like it fine, if you are having problems in your area call the game warden or the law. But you can take all of your other anti dog / ban dog hunting talk, you can write on a piece of poster board, crumble it up with your moneyand shove it allup your.....well you know the rest.

Dogs
This is funny I've passed up 20 like this baby and they had to have dogs to kill that!
No Dogs
Just few pic from the past few years

If you dog guys want to call that baby a deer, did you have to take Pampers off of him before you field dressed him. So keep chasing them babys keeps you out of the real woods andleaves the real deer for the true hunters. Oh and while your riding around chasing your dogs drinking your beer try to remember what blaze orange look like.
Last year my son and I were almost shot by a dog hunter. We had just gotten off the 4 wheeler started walking into the wood when I heard some dogs coming next I turned around saw a doe jump acrossed the road heard a gun shot and the doe fell to the ground 15 feet behind me guy never saw me standing there in blaze orange he shot right at my son lucky he had gotton down the hill further then I was before the shot was fired. After cussin the drunk basterd out I got on my four wheeler and went home. No since in calling the GW I scared him so bad when I yelled at him after he shot that I think he crapped his pants. He and his buddys made tracks because theres no dog huntingallowed in our county but they do it anyway.

Just a little insight. That buck was his first ever.It was his second season and hehad killed a doe but never a buck so actually he was pretty thrilled with it. We don't need the dogs to kill the deer rather we like to use the dogs. After almost 3 months of still hunting in NC and VA bow and blackpowder a dog hunt can be an exciting change of pace.
As for your other ignorant comments, many of us hunt with dogs and don't drink beer or shoot at you and your son or any of the other things you mentioned but by all means lump us all together and makemore ignorantcomments about the deer people kill because you are obviously a master hunter, I'm sure you fish too so I would guess you are probably a master baiter as well
. You would think you would beposting pics of monster deer with all the crap you just talked but the pics prove otherwise, some decent VA bucks for sure but don't kid yourself. Real woods....real deer.....true hunter....whatever , you sound like just another blowhard to me.
Good luck with all of your "trophy conquests" (seriously)and maybe one of the dozens of small bucks you let go will venture past a new hunter and become a trophy to them (even though I'm sure you will be full of smug disapproval).
For the record I don't care whata personhunts or chooses to kill as long as they are respectful of others and follow the game laws, that is what I do and what Iteach my kids and other new hunters to do,it's a pity others have so much trouble with that and feel their way is the only way and anyone else is somehow less of a hunter than they are. You know what I mean blueheeler101?

Maybe, had you been a little more diplomatic about your release the hounds statement. If it had not been for that I might not have even joined this thread. I don’t know what the answer is but you can’t began to comprehend how aggrieving it is to plan a day’s hunt on a stand that you have been watching a nice buck only to have it ruined by someones dog hunting. For instances I’ve been sitting on my stand on private property since 5 am does bedded all around me right in the middle of the rut 8 am somebody two farms over turns there dogs lose 8:15 am 7 deer go blasting by me with 5 dogs behind them. So then the only thing for me to do is go home. Now my question to you D head is first I’m sure your much better fisherman then I, and when your hunt with your dogs do they ever cross on to posted property? If they do and I’m sure they do since they can’t read then how is that being respectful of others myson may have been sitting there waiting for that little buck before your dogs chased him away.
I don’t care how or what other people shoot or hunt with as long they stay on their property. Shoot all the deer you want on your land but don’t come and chase them off my land. That’s pisses me off is not hunting it happens every weekend on one of the farms we hunt once rifle season starts. I’m not joining the pita guys here but you know the state should do something my hunting time is just as important to me as yours is to you. I shouldn’t have my ruined so you can enjoy yours. Maybe the month of January should be dog hunting month. It wouldn’t matter here they use them illegal anyway as dog are not allowed in our county.
I’ve never entered a deer in a contest you think I should? I alsodon't bait deerand your right I’m not a member of the if its brown it’s down club I like to practice a littlequality deer management but not so some idiot can run his dogs through my land and kill them with buckshot from his truck window.
The guy shooting at us last year is no joke and I don't think it's funny not even a little. If he had not been dog hunting that would not have happen. He stopped his truck looking at the deer coming to cross the road they jumped in the woods behind me I turned to see what all the noise was only to hear the shot and see the deer fall he shot standing next to his door the deer hit the ground no farther fifteen feet from me he never seen me or my 4 wheeler parked on the side of the road thank god my son had already walk down the hill some or he would have been right behind the deer.
