I've been watching a doe and her two small fawns since they were born last spring, they had became part of my hunting area, and I refused to shoot them. This past saturday dogs made their way in and I think they ran the deer out and they got shot. I saw 14 doe last wednesday, and I think this past saturday the people that turned the dogs loose ran out and probably killed a good part of them. good riddance to dogs chasing deer in va. hope the dgif does something about it

There are tons of dog clubs in VA. It might eventually get regulated but don't count on it going anywhere. Think of all the deer those clubs kill, and it is very necessary. If they banned dog hunting who would pick up the slack in the deer harvest department, still hunters? Yeah right. Maybe Sunday hunting could help in that respect....hmmmm.

I thought I had read that someother states that allow dog hunting have gone to regs that require clubs to have large chunks of land, like 1000 acres or more, and for areas smaller only a certain number/kind of dogs can be run.

Pearl Jam, same kind of thing here. I've watched a big doe and smaller doeand twoyearlings on a regular basis. I think they actually shot one or both of the does sometime in the past week or so because last night I walked out to check the area and only saw the two yearlings. These guys shoot whatever runs out, then worry about who has a tag for it. If no one has a tag, they'll take what the meat theywant and leave the carcass lying. Our area is pretty much DNR free, which doesn't help. In two and half years the police have only ridden as far as our house twice, and one of those times was because I called them.

As a dog hunter I'm sorry all of you have to deal with whatever you have to deal with. The road goes both ways sorry ass huters are of all types.

Good luck with DGIF, we're on to their bs scheme, word is out and all the clubs are rallying. It is a tradition here as are the bear dogs, coon dogs, etc.

As an aside, as property size shrinks dog hunters are feeling it also. Some of my buddies are purchasing bird dogs to hut our smaller parcels with (convenience to us now) but with the thought that they may end up being the trend in the future.

That said Itrulywish all of you didn't have to deal with the types of people you are describing it gives all of us a bad name.Good luck with your hunting, I'm heading out in themorning.

I live in and hunt in north Florida where we have 30 and up to 90 thousand acre tracts of land to hunt. We are without a doubt very lucky to have such large tracts of land down here. But everybody that hunts with dogs should be held accountable for their actions. I am a still hunter and a dog hunter. I don't agree with the *******s that try and create problems on either side of the table. In Taylor county there are plenty of GFC officers out that will bust your tell if you let your dogs get on property that they are not supposed to be on. Please don't let the bad ones give you guys the opinion that we are all like the trouble makers because that is not the case at all.

A lot of guys here recommend finding another place to hunt where the dogs aren't. Nice idea, but not feasible. Maybe we should consider the opposite - maybe dog hunters should find some place where the dogs won't run onto other people's property. Obviously that's not feasible either.I think the big issue is a lack of consideration-- or a sense ofentitlement and arrogance. Dogs can't read, but their owners/handlers can. I'm fairly tolerant when a dog handler is apologetic when caught tresspassing, but I don't have a lot of patience when they come busting through the brush acting like they have a right to ingore my posted/no trespassing signs and basically tell me to "get stuffed." Dog hunters haven't been able or willing to police theirown, and as a result, DGIF is stepping in to fill the void. As a land owner of over 100 acres, I've been invited byVDGIF to participate in the deer/dog hunting survey and study.

This land has been in my family for about 100 years -- so going somewhere else isn't an option. Now, the guys who have been running dogs across my land for 20 years - with me complaining about it - probably consider it a tradition. I guess it depends on your definition.

Yes they will write you a ticket in a heartbeat, a 500 dollar ticket! I am a die-hard doghunter in Taylor County Floridatoo and we never have problems like these because we dont hunt small acreage as stated above. You have to have 1,000 continous acres to run dogs legally inFlorida and i am sure some regulation will bebrought to Virginia.

On behalf of deerdog hunters, i wanttoapologize for fellow doghunters whoruin your hunting and not all doghunting is conducted in this manner. I cannot remember the last time our dogswere off the hunting club property in many years, and because of disrespectful doghunters like this all doghunters will pay for it.

Folks I do not have a problem with dogs being used on deer. Even on small properties I think it could be done with good hunters and a smaller amount of dogs being used. I will continue using the property I have access too only due to I happen to like what I see. I'll just take a digital camera out with me and if I see any thing I will take photos of the dogs, truck tags and the the hunters.

Well I'm moving to KY! No, I hope the VDGIF can do something to make hunting in VA enjoyable for everyone. Dog hunting is a way of life for some people as is stand or still hunting. There has to be room for everybody. By the way I'm a still/stand hunting person who has felt the frustrating days of hounds running through my set up where they are not allowed to be. Those same people would be upset if they found me in a tree on their property right?
