Default Virginia Quail

Anybody have any idea where a good place is to hunt quail in Virginia? I am in the Hampton Roads area so something around here would be great. Thanks!

That's like asking a fisherman where he catches his fish! If anyone knows of any they're probably not going to tell. Quail are really scarce here in VA and it's not looking much better for the future.

Here here! I know of 2 wild coveys in Prince William Co. and one in Orange. I hunt all over central and northern VA and that's all I've ever seen. I've seen a couple here and there, but not enough to call a covey. At those farms, those quail are always there.

I've been a member of a couple different hunt clubs over the past few years. One was in Surry County, the other was just west of Emporia. Both had quail on their properties (but no pheasant). The key here is that they were both leased lands from timber companies. The quail seem to like the habitat created when they timber chunks of the property and the grasses and bushes start growing back in. I'm now hunting public land (Chickahominy WMA) and haven't seen or heard a single one.

I used to hunt them inLoudon Co. when I was a kid all the time. Now you can't walk in a field without having a liberal get on to you. The fox clubs in VA are a strong lobby and have shut down most of the predator hunting. The outcome is that there are no longer any quail or pheasant numbers that can be hunted wild.
