Default electric fences on feeders

On the same lease for the last 4 years we have never had more than the usualproblems with cows until now. The cows have broken down the legs on 3 feeders and severly bent two of our barrels. After knocking the legs further apart they have learned to tickle the spinner with their tongueswhich results in loss of all the corn. They then have knocked the legs out so far that the brackets bend and make the feeders unusable. We have now put "T" posts at an angle and tied the legs to them but are unsure if this will slow these pesky devils down now that they are "into" our deercorn. We are considering putting electric fencing around the feeders and would appreciate any experience this forum has had with this. Thanks, griz

If there are trees in the area, use a boat winch and hang the feeder up about 8 or more feet.

Thanks Timber, NE Oklahoma. No trees of any stature around. This is no mans land, sand and scrub brush mostly with a fewpost oaks thrown in to break up the weeds. :-) jim

if you put electric around the feeder it will also stop the deer from coming.bad idea!![][&o][&:]

first I would get a 12' 4"x4" pressure treated post, set it in the ground3' and pour one bag of post crete around it with one 5 gal. bucket of water.let set for a few days.,put a 6' 4x4 on top with brace. then put a boat wench with a pully wheel at the corner top and one on the end of the 6' one. run the cable up the post through the wheel and out to the end and down through another wheel down to the feeder drum.that will stop the legs from bending. then get a roll of 48" redtop hog wire(a roll is 320'.) put a 75' to 80' square around the feeder.
The deer will easily jump into the pen and the cows can't get in.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! [8D][8D]
