How long shold you blow the call?
Sometimes I wounder. How long should you sit and blow a game call before you relocate to another spot? I know somtimes it takes a little for the preditor to locate the sound of the call, but do you think you are wasting time after a few hours?

[blockquote]When my sons as I were calling,we would wait about 30 to 40 minutes is all..
What are you going after? If it coyotes you are better off to try a locater
of some type..A howler, will usually do the trick..If it is fox then you ought
to be sure they are around the area first..I think we wasted a lot of time
on a lot of areas we called.Good luck and keep us posted...Sounds like fun.

So are you getting any replys when you use the howler??
We usually don't bother with the area unless we have a
good idea the coyotes are in the area..One can sit and
call all night for nothing..I like to call around a swamp
area...Another thing we are trying is the remote call and
having the speaker about 50 yards away from us..
We were going to try it last night but it was too darn windy
to be calling..Good luck

Deek---In answer your question,I don't think it will scare them away...
I have read where and heard that red fox and coyotes will not live in
the same area..B.S-I SAY.I have seen them out it the same field....

A couple of hours is quite a long time. even though I have sat in the same spot for over an hour. It was the last set of the day and I was determined to get something to come in. 30 minutes max is really it.

RE: How long shold you blow the call?
Hay Johnny, ya most of the time I will always get a response with the locator. We also had one night were we hadcoyotes and foxes come in together. See I live on a wetland reserve / dog training facility. Its about 700 acres of flooded march land that never gets hunted. So in the last few years Iv noticed a rise in predator numbers. Also lot of dead waterfowl carcasses around most of the water banks. We set some motion cameras around the property and saw few fox, some but few. Iv only seen one bobcat with a litter, and lots and lots of coyotes, lots. So we started calling the coyotes in and shooting them with shotguns. The first night it was nonstop. They were in large numbers. When a fox or that cat would come into the motion box we would use a 17 HMR or a22. 250. I really don’t think it’s a good idea to try to remove all the predator around the area because like I said we have lots of water year around. Witch in return attracts lost of varmints. So they serve there purpose. But it was getting a little out of control.
