I've never used a 22-250 but I do use a .223 and love it. The ammo is easy to find and very cheap. I'm dead nuts at 200 yds. and took a coyote out at 440 yds. I found the bullet only dropped 2 inches at the most! I have heard a lot of good things about the other also. Both are good for long shots but you might want to consider what else you might want to use it for.? The .223 is pretty limitted on weight selection. I'm using 55 gr (most common) but have found them up to 80 some gr. all of which is pretty light. Althogh, I did take out a deer at 300yds with a soft tip 65 gr a few years ago. Just wanted to see what it would do. She didn't go but 75 yds tops but a larger and heavier tip would have left it where it stood. What ever you do I would suggest a bi-pod and good scope. Good luck!!

I love the 22-250 for anything bigger than a squirrel, and smaller than an elk. But if you are on a budget, the 223 will work on all those animals too, but not as well. Just for yotes it doesn't really matter that much and the 223 or the 22-250 will be about the same. You can get ammo for the 223 much cheaper and easier to find. Basicly whatever is the easiest for you to get is what I would use.
If it were me I would get a savage 111G in 22-250 and put a 3x9x50 scope on it. Then a good sling, and bi-pod. And I would use winchester 40 grain supream ballistic tip bullets. Keep in mind we have alot of hogs around where my state and I tend to like guns that would also take out a big bore too, the 223 might be better for coyotes.

Both are very good coyote calibers. The 22-250 obviuosly delivers with a little more punch, but is it necassary. I shoot a 22-250, and have exit wounds on everything except frontal, chest, shots. If you are wanting to save the hides, go with the .223. Ammo is cheaper and it is plenty for coyotes.

the deciding factor for me on those two cartidges would be yardage.if my average shot was going to be 300-400 plus yard shots i would go with a 22-250.anything closer would be the 223.availibilty of ammo would also have to be a factor,of caurse the 223 can be had any where and for alot less money.

I have both and reload so the cost of ammo is almost the same . I use the 223 the most because its a light weight rifle . The 22-250 has more range and the extra weight helps the accuracy ,but it gets kind of heavy on a long hunt .
