If you can't bring one down with a .22 its due to bad shot placement. .22s are all I use and out of a couple hundred I've killed I think about 5 have taken a second shot to bring down. Most are taken at 70 yards or under with cheap bulk wal-mart ammo. Just remember; think, aim, shoot. Good spot is the artery that runs down the neck; you can see the ridge if you have good eyes, lots of artery, nerves, and sometimes mashes the throat with it. (who knew taking an anatomy class would help me hunt)

RE: 22 LR and Coyotes
If that mean's I shouldn't be in the woods then my entire way of living is way off. And has been for years.
Of course there is the alternitive that the person who hunts coyotes with a .22 successfully may just spend more time in the woods than on internet forums and can actually shoot well rather than just shoot.
Looks like some of you guys should take out the old targets to practice and maybe crack open a biology book.
If you are unsure about your ability then I agree that you shout use something bigger to ensure a clean kill but if you can shoot well a .22lr is plenty

Sounds like some of you need to get more experiance hunting then you can get on here and post some reasonable quotes about coyotes and .22lr.It doesnt take a machinegun to kill them, nor a deer rifle. We all use 22-250,.220swift,&.223 to give us more range but from about 70 to 80 yards your lr will do.I highly dought that some of you have enough in the woods time to make such statements as --we shouldnt be in the woods,or dont know anything about a .22lr or coyotes. What makes you all the experts??

I've killed several deer w/my .22 when I was younger and not one of them got away. Was it responsible to do so? No. But the point is, it doesn't take a 50cal to kill a yote. Its all about shot placement and shot selection. That being said, if I was buying a gun to hunt them w/I would buy a 220 swift or 22-250 instead of a 22but by no means is that the only thing that will kill them.

i dont think that a .22 would kill a yote if you shot it in the vitals. that being said, if you were to shoot it in its head, it would drop. as for all of my varmint and predator hunting, (armadillos, coyotes, and foxes) i use my .223 winchester JHP rounds. VERY DEADLY. my buddy craig uses his .22-250 and it does a number on yotes as well.
