Not really. You need to look at the unit you want to put in for it and then call the state. I have drawn 3 years in a row for rifle and they have actually had left overs for the area I hunt.

A 12 gauge with slugs would work just fine. Most Maine hunters I have met shot bears in close....less than 50 yards.

Just about anything will work...

I am well aware of the differences in the 50 cal bmg and the 50 cal black powder, I was mocking another blogger. The state of Alaska does not require certain guns, it only "recomends certain guns"....

I would recommend the 30-06. You can kill just about everything in the lower 48 with it. If you ever plan to hunt Alaska then go with the 300 win mag.

The 30-06 will work in close range with a 220 grain bullet. If you stretch it out past 150 yards you are asking for trouble. I shot my 8'6" grizzly with a 220 NP out of a 300 win mag at 240 yards....

I have successfully hunted Grizzlies with a 300 win mag. The guide I use carries a 300 win mag and has for 20 years. He has guided hundreds of hunts over the years. The knock down power is plenty...
