climbers do last a lifetime, but only if they are taking care of, as for the saddle, there is a special oil you can rub on once a yr to make them last alot longer, or when they get old replace them,...

i butcher it, asap, and then age it in the fridge for a week then 3-5 days then freeze it, aging gives the regamortis time to settle, this way the meat wont be tough
