don't know if they're still making them or not but Remington used to make a thing they called the accelerator 55gr bullet in a sabot... shot over 4000fps... was deadly out to 300 or so yards... other than that you may find some 110 gr loads...

I would step up to the 300 ultra mag for critters of that size. 200 grain X bullet Minimum.

MY 8 ga. hurts my shoulder that's why I'm shooting the 30/06.LOL The reason for the question is I own the ruger it's like new and want something more for longer range varmint shooting than my 22.I don't reload and you guys know your stuff, that's why I asked the question.

You can get 110 or 125 grain loads that will be great for varmints as long as you don't need the pelts. If you are looking for good pelts then use the 168 grain target rounds - they pencil through most of the time.

why stop there?... I shoot a bunch every summer with the 375H&H and the 45-70's... ground hogs are tough customers...

Ya you want to use enough gun on those critters. I've heard they will bare thier teeth and charge at you if wounded
Those acceleraters are to spendy IMHO for blasting ammo so if I had to go with factory I'd get the inexpensive 150s
Personally tho I think I'd handload some of those 110gr bullets for an 06.
Better yet I could use this as a real good excuse to buy a new rifle in oh...223?

Tons of cheap military surplus rounds out there. I'd go that route before I'd dole out what they are asking for any store bought factory round. Make sure it's non-corrosive ammo, if it is you'll need to scrub your rifle better.
