Looking for advise on loads for my new 22-250. Not partial to anything. Factory is 45gr. My Uncle says Hornaday 52gr. Any others? Have a box of 100 of the 52gr's, but nothing else. Opinions please. Thank's.
P.S. It would be helpful if you could to say why you picked what you picked.
Oh YA, Will be used for multiple targets from paper (I like to shoot
) to PD's, to Yote's! Don't have a problem with working up multiple loads either

I've fired almost every bullet possible through a .22-250 from 40 grain to 60 grain.
I strongly prefer 50-55 grain bullets and frankly there isn't a bummer out there....they all seem to be superb bullets.
When it comes to Prairie dogs, I love Speers 50 Gr TNT ahead of H-380 powder.
Nosler BTs and Hornady V-Max bullets are also spectacular and some real grest bullets are available from Berger.
H-380 and H-414 powders seem my favorites and flat base bullets seem to be as good or better than boat tails. Economics dictates that you at least try the Speer TNT 50 Grain bullet.

I have two 22-250's & one 223 that really like the Sierra 52-grain HPBT Matchking bullet.
My pet load for both 22-250's is 40-grains of H-414 with Winchester large rifle primers.
I can not recommed the Sierra 52-grain HPBT Matchking for varmit hunting. I have been told from people on this board & from Sierra tech support that the Matchking bullets are only designed to punch holes in paper.
I must say that every coyote & rock chuck I have shot with this load dropped on the spot. Sierra tech support did tell me that 99.9% of the time that bullet should fragment just like any other varmit bullet but they will never promise it in writting.
I am now in the process of finding a good varmit bullet & load for all my varmit rifles.

I prefer Nosler BT's in 55 grain pushed by Hodgdon Varget powder, Win. brass and CCI primers. They will shoot 1/2" 3 shot groups @ 100 yds. on a good day.

My 22-250 loves Hornady 52gr BTHP match. This bullet works well for ANYTHING including whitetail.
My load is:
35.8 grn IMR 4064
52 gr Hornady BTHP match
2.395 OAL
Consistenly shoots under .250 with 5 shots.
Have never lost a deer with this load.

I am a big fan of nosler ballistic tips. My 22-250 seems to prefer the 50 grain variety. I chose to shoot ww-760 powder because it meters so well, and when reloading for a varmint rifle, I like to knock rounds out quick. I've shot many 1 hole groups (3 and 5 shot). Terminal performance is fantastic on prarie dogs and rock chucks. If you don't have the ww-760, give hogdon 380 a try.

I don't own a 22-250, but the guys that I know that do own one all prefer the 55 gr ballistic tip. Out of my 223's I like the Hornady 50 gr sxsp or Speer TNT. For shooting at paper any hp should suffice. I like the sxsp because they're cheap enough to shoot at paper and the ground hogs are a spray of red in the wind. Vmax should be the equivalent to the ballistic tip. You'll have to see what combo your gun likes. H380 is a good starting point. From what I've heard about 10-15 thousandths off the lands is where accuracy shines, but every gun is different. What type of rig are we talking about?
